Report: Charles Barkley to run for governor
What do y'all think of the idea of Gov. Charles? He is not, BTW, a Republican, as some people think.

http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3133386

Oh how we've missed the Chuckster this summer. Charles Barkley said yesterday that he voted for John Kerry, and that if Kerry didn't win, he will run for governor of Alabama. He would win it, too. We'd love to see Sir Charles imposing his will on the government in the same fashion as he did when he played and now as he does to the helpless Ernie Johnson in the studio

1. I think he has too much baggage
But his candor would definitely be a breath of fresh air.

2. If Arnie can win California, The Chuckster can win Alabama.
I have loved him since he played for the Phoenix Suns, how he would do as Gov of Alabama, I would love to watch that happen. Charles always says what is on his mind.

4. Can he win?
I've heard Lucy will run, and a few local republicans have actually told me she will be our next gov. I want a strong Dem candidate who will tell it like it is. We need to shake Bama up!

5. I'd rather see Lucy run against Sessions
That bastard makes my skin crawl.

I know this is going to sound crazy but I think Barkley could win. He is a dynamic enough personality to transcend race. He's probably the only Alabamian who could.

We have to get someone who can beat Sessions (and Shelby) next time. I want to start looking now for someone to run against Everett too. All three of them make my skin crawl lol. These guys are just creepy.

If you think Barkley can win, more power to him. I'm more confident about our ability to send a Democrat to Montgomery than any to D.C. That's got to be changed. La has a helluva women Dem Senator. Surely we can pull off the same trick!

edited cuz I just can't get a whole thought out at once today lol

I don't remember the story, but it goes along the lines of he made a joke about being a Rep. and now they swear up and down he's one. He's denied that claim.

9. I remember hearing a story
Charles Barkley told his mom he was voting for Bush I or Reagan and his mom said "What? That's the rich man's party!" to which he retorted "Well mama I'm rich man!"

Even if he did say that it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with who he is now. I voted for Bush I & Dole and I'm definately not a Republican anymore.

I think Barkley could start the wheels of change in Alabama. I read last week that black registered voters equalled white registered voters for the first time in Alabama. Obviously they didn't all turnout but maybe Barkley could invigorate those who haven't been voting.

It will take a very strong personality to overcome the good ol' boy network in Alabama. I think Sir Charles would have a shot at doing it.

10. I would not be stunned at all
to see Bob Riley beaten in the GOP primary by Roy Moore.

And quite frankly, I don't know that Lucy Baxley has what it takes to stop him. A lot of people here think Roy Moore is some sort of joke, but he is a force to be reckoned with and he is just getting started.

I don't know that Charles can stop him either, but it'll be one hell of a fight.

Dothan! ;) I hope he's just getting ended and not started. Hopefully there are enough ppl on the north end of the state that think he's an idiot that he won't get anywhere.

11. Go Sir Charles
What is it going to take for people to wake up and realize their lives are pathetic? I swear that this whole "values" crap stems from:
1 - people still pissed off about the New Deal e.g. holding a 70+ year grudge
2 - people pissed off about integrating the schools. It has taken 50 years but they have finally succeeded in dumbing down and running down public schools in the south. My mother's side of the family is from the south and much as I hate to say, nice people but dumber than a box of rocks. No income tax but you'll pay 11% sales tax?? The few in AL who can't do the math to figure out paying state income tax starting at $4000 is not GOOD for them?

Are people that dumb to not see decaying schools, roads, no jobs/minimum wage jobs, no health insurance, no water/sewer services but then say their biggest worry is gay marriage? Slavery is alive and well my friends, wage slaves. Those who work and barely eke out a living pay taxes. Those who inherit, have interest income, and/or have investment income pay nothing. Pure and simple - are people going to have to starve first? Or a few citizens killed, beaten, or raped by the prisoners they let out early? Die on highways because there is no money for law enforcement? And when you get the dumbass 10 commandments displayed in public question, ask which version should be list? Catholic, Protestant, or Jewish version. Then walk away, leaving them to stew in their own hypocrisy.
