New Ariz. parks chief once vandalized park property

<snip>

The Arizona State Parks Board's unanimous selection of Renée Bahl to take over the parks system next month has polarized state leaders.

<snip>

Bahl, a former assistant state parks director, oversaw historic preservation at the San Rafael Ranch. San Rafael, which is not open to the public, is a 3,500-acre preserve purchased by the parks board in 1999. It sits at the headwaters of the Santa Cruz River and is home to a variety of wildlife and endangered plants.

In 2001, another employee caught her etching her first name and the year into the wall of a historic adobe barn.

Bahl was disciplined but remained in her job until 2002, when she left to become director of parks and recreation for San Diego County, Calif.

1. Utterly outrageous and dispicable. And unforgiveable.
She wasn't a child or a teenager, she was Assistant State Parks Director, overseeing the state's historic preservation office, and vandalizing historical sites under her protection!! She should have been barred from re-entering the state forever.

I want to know how the Parks Board members attain their seats... appointment? Election? Cuz I am going to work against the reappointment or reelection of any who approved her. (I can't find from the APB site how they get their positions)

4. Aaaaaaah!!!!!
"We need help, we don't need criticism," he said.

Yah, we need help by people who actually give a shit about preservation.

I have decided to print the article and send a copy to EVERY single history club, association and organization in this state. I will find out what morons on the board approved her and include their names. Maybe a few orgs will print it in their newsletters (likely not). Maybe it will be spread through word of mouth amongst those who actually CARE about preservation.

It's sure as hell gonna be talked about in my org. And names are gonna be on the table.

It's outrageous.
