Violence on both sides of Prop 8
CARLSBAD, Calif.—An elderly Carlsbad couple was punched by a neighbor during an angry confrontation over Proposition 8 yard signs.

Lt. Neil Galluci says 53-year-old Lawrence Pizzicara was arrested Monday night and booked for investigation of elder abuse and battery causing great bodily injury.

Investigators say the couple—a 76-year-old man and his 77 year-old wife—had placed a "Yes on Prop. 8" sign in their yard.

San Mateo police said they arrested two people Monday after a fight broke out between supporters and opponents of a controversial proposition that would ban gay marriage in California.

The altercation occurred at about 4 p.m. at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Humboldt Street when between five and seven opponents of Proposition 8, on the ballot in today's election, clashed with 10 to 15 supporters of the proposed constitutional amendment, police said in a statement. Words were exchanged and then a Polynesian man in his 20s wearing a white T-shirt allegedly grabbed a 17-year-old girl and struck her in the head. Police said he was about 6 feet 2 inches tall and 250 pounds.

1. A Green friend of mine told me he'd decided to vote Yes on 8 because of shenanigans
By No on 8 people in his neighborhood. Apparently they broke some windows on a business that had Yes on 8 signs.

I know the guy very well. We went to high school together. He's generally for equality, but he refuses to "acquiesce to petulant people".

2. This is terrible, but I've had violent thoughts about it myself
I've never acted upon them, of course, but I'm working to accept the outcome - and I think the proposition is going to pass. It's just too easy for people to blame gays for their problems. It's still very socially acceptable to hate gays - especially now that they have the right to marry.

4. I had to run 2 gauntlets on my way home today
3 No on 8 people blocking the sidewalk near one polling place, 2 others awfully close to another one.

I voted against 8, but if I were still wavering at this time I think I might be influenced - but not in the way they want.

6. I'm surrounded by Yes on 8 supporters
And had my signs stolen twice. I haven't seen any Yes on 8 signs touched. I tend to see the Yes on 8 people as the troublemakers.

7. The passage of this proposition is going to cause a LOT of hard feelings
If the same-sex marriage law had been left intact, the majority would have accepted it over time. In fact, everything HAS been fine for the last few months while same-sex marriage has been legal in California.

But this is what haters do. They can't stand to see the "out group" gain rights that they never had previously, and they want to blame that same group for society's troubles.

What a waste of time and money this has been. How has same-sex marriage harmed anyone in California over the last few months, and what do the "Yes On 8" people think they're going to gain by eliminating it?

The truth? They will gain nothing. In fact, California will LOSE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in revenue with the removal of same-sex marriage.

Thanks, homophobes. You've made California's fiscal problems even worse than they were before.
