new tax for Californians that buy on-line
I see now you must pay a "use tax" on items you buy online that you have not paid state taxes on (i.e. items from other states).

I don't buy a whole lot of stuff online - maybe about $500.00 or so a year.

I owe no taxes except for the "use tax" on this $500.00 I spent. That works out to about $40.00 in my case.

Thanks for raising our taxes gropenfuhrer!

:(

:nuke:

2. TurboTax error
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 11:07 PM by CountAllVotes
seems I don't even need to file (Turbo Tax generates 520-EZ). My income is way too low.

Hmmm ...

I believe the new man at the Treasury now.

I'm thinking that TurboTax sucks!

3. if you buy something from a bricks and mortar store
you have to pay the sales tax

why should internet sites be exempt? it's a bit unfair that people choose to duck taxes that go to support state programs and in the process drive local businesses out because people are shopping on line and ducking taxes

if you can't afford to pay $40.00 in taxes, you sure can't afford to spend $500.00 on stuff on line

4. most of it was food
which is not taxable it says. The other things I get are taxed at a higher rate than the county I live in which I find frustrating at best.

I'm in no position to be much of an online shopper. I've spent more than the sales tax rate on returns and therefore tend to not shop much on line.

I do like some of the stores that sell organic foods however. There are some good deals to be found it seems.

In any event, it is rather irrelevant in my case.

5. That's not a new tax.
I've paid it for at least two years, probably three. That doesn't include 2008 because I haven't filed yet.

6. Use tax has been in place since the 1930s
It's not new at all.
