San Francisco police arrested 28 suspected gang members during a daylong operation aimed at getting the "worst of the worst" off the streets, officials said Friday.
Police, state and federal agents seized six guns during Wednesday's operation, which began at 6 a.m. and ended at midnight and targeted gang members who are on probation or parole, said Assistant Chief Kevin Cashman.
"We want to make it very clear that the city of San Francisco is not a place to commit violence," Police Chief George Gascón said at a news conference at the Bayview police station.
Gang task force Lt. Ernie Ferrando said police went after "the worst of the worst of each gang."
