Calif. bill would create annual Ronald Reagan Day
They have all lost their minds.

Is there no one who actually KNOWS or REMEMBERS what this loon did to the country? Reaganomics started the decline of this country that we see every day in so many ways.

I contacted my state senator and just slammed her today. :-(

1. Unanimously passed the state Senate
That says a lot about the state of the so-called "Democrats" in the California Senate.

4. I think it would be great to have a day every year in which we educate the children of Cali on
everything Ronald Reagan did to destroy this country.

8. You can't sugarcoat Reagan, right?
I mean, I wonder how teachers are going to explain stuff like:
- Iran/contra
- The US-backed death squads in Central America that were committing mass murder at a time when the US was denouncing the evils of Communism
- The rise in poverty/unemployment and the consequences like AIDS and drugs
- Reagan didn't really cut taxes; in fact, after his 1981 tax cut that conservatives oh so love, there came a couple of tax increases
- The national debt doubled despite Reagan's campaign on fiscal conservatism

Also, when California starts organizing Reagan Day teacher's supplements, the state should definitely NOT trust self-proclaimed "Reagan conservative" and Fox News yapper Sean Hannity, because Hannity is a historical reviser.

9. Won't stop them -- they'll forget it ever happened
Aren't some Texas schools systems rewriting history to favor conservative principles? California can do the same.

11. It's even worse than that. Because they are a big market
schoolbook publishers use TX to create a national standard. And, I read a few years ago that a good number of these same publishers are BushCo cronies. Can't find the article but believe it was The Nation because I read hardcopy, not on line.

No matter where you raise your kids, if they go to public school, TX revisions are going impact them.

10. Not to mention things like...

His philosophy of "the enemy of our enemy is our friend" also caused most of our current foreign problems today. Maybe 9/11 might not have even happened if we didn't stick our nose into Afghanistan in the attempt to thwart Russia. Who's to say Osama wouldn't have met up with a Hind? As for Saddam, he would have still fought with Iran and we would have been way better off not getting into that one either. As for Reaganomics we all know the disaster that's been. Yet conservatives always act like the guy was Jesus. Remember that crackpot congressman from NC that wanted Reagan on the $50 bill?

12. I hope they use one of his famous quotes,
"I don't care if it takes a blood bath we need to go in and win in Vietnam"

13. Disgusting
Another step in the outrageous hagiography of this overrated figurehead. As has been well-covered here, not only was his leadership terrible at the time, it really set us on the course for destruction. The decimation of the modern labor movement, carelessly bloating the national debt, piss-down economics, and class warfare can all be traced back to his legacy. The creation of this holiday sucks even more for us Californians also considering what a nasty Governor he was...anytime that "bloodbath" quote runs through my head I almost wonder aloud, "Why do people consider him a cuddly grandfather figure?"

Look at the bright side...if it's officially enacted, those of us who know the truth about Ronnie can "celebrate" in our own rebellious way. Perhaps we can all snag "Iran/Contra Trading Cards" off of eBay, or interview people at random and ask if they know various facts ("Did you know he backed Saddam Hussein in the Iran/Iraq War?"). Or perhaps a shirt listing these facts:
