"Schwarzenegger named one of worst governors by national ethics group"
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/nov05election/detail?entry_id=61816

The "winning" list of 11 governors — including nine Republicans and two Democrats — is composed of elected officials "who have pushed their states' best interests aside in favor of their supporters, families, political parties and bank accounts," CREW said in its announcement.

CREW singled out six Schwarzenegger controversies. It alleged the GOP governor:

• Used non-profit and campaign funds for personal benefit

• Built cozy relationships with special interests

• Created conflicts of interest by accepting a consulting position and doing state business with a company staffed by his former campaign aides

• Provided state jobs to friends with dubious qualifications

• Forced air pollution employees who were trying to protect the environment out of office

• Vetoed bills to improve transparency in hospitals at the behest of powerful special interests

1. As a citizen of the Great State of California, let me say I wholeheartedly agree.
He is a disaster. And an embarrassment.

3. I don't see where Gray Davis should be smiling

Gray Davis didn't know what to do with a financial crisis that was not entirely of his making and spent entirely too much time fund raising with interest groups he favored. They were better interest groups than Arnie's, but it was still pay-to-play politics.

So the voters recalled Davis and got Arnie. Arnie inherited the state's financial crisis (obviously not of his making), still didn't have a clue what to do about it and spent entirely too much time fund raising.

Well, at least Arnie, after all those years making some of the best bad movies in Hollywood, was more fun to watch. That's the best thing I can say about him. He wasn't the worst governor this state had; that distinction belongs to Pete Wilson. Nevertheless, he was elected to solve problems and didn't deliver.

I'm betting on Jerry Brown to win this year. Maybe he can do it. Brown isn't perfect (and who is?), but he's solutions oriented and doesn't mind pissing off a few powerful people when he thinks he's right and has something that will work.
