Oakland Unified School District Elementary schools |
|
Hello, all.
I had posted this in GD before, and they recommended this forum. If any of you can add more info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Friends of mine are relocating to CA for 2 years, and need help selecting a school for their kids. I am from the East Coast and not familiar at all with that part of the world. Much, if not all, of what I have heard about Oakland is bad, so I need some help separating fact from fiction/reputation. How would you rank the following schools in the Oakland Unified School district?
Allendale Elementary School Crocker Highlands Elementary School Fruitvale Elementary School Glenview Elementary School Laurel Elementary School Sequoia Elementary School

If your friends have a choice in schools I'd suggest either Crocker Highlands or Glenview Elementary. I live in the Glenview district and there is a lot of parent involvement in that school Crocker Highlands is right next door to my district and a tad more affluent, the school reflects the demographics of the neighborhood. I would avoid Allendale. the other schools are fine but not as fine as the first two I noted. I have a number of friends who teach in various schools through out the district. They all tell me that things are improving from a teacher's point of view.
