1. I don't think it will help--and it's unconstitutional |
|
Basically, each school will get $2000 for each student enrolled. Tuition will be increasing, you can count on it. There's no way that amount of money will cover costs.
And giving $1200 per student enrolled to those three private schools is unconstitutional. What the hell is that all about anyway? DU, Colorado College and REGIS which is a Catholic school. $1200 isn't going to help anyone afford those schools anyway.
How many times do the voters have to say no on vouchers in Colorado before the legislature quits trying to slip them through?

3. It DOES Discriminate... |
|
...against students who choose to go to an ineligible institution. I think this will go the way of Amendment 2, which is what I wish had happened to TABOR.

While I'm a great fan of Colorado College, I have reservations that this will just open the doors to funding the private unis at the expense of the public ones. And while it may turn out ot be okay, it seems to me to be just one more step in the privatization of the public sector.
That said, I'm done with school, except to go get my doctorate. But had Arizona done this (where I grew up), I could not have afforded college, even at the states and comm colls. There were too many private universities that would have siphoned off funds from the chronically underfunded universities. I got lucky and went to school on an exceptional, well funded private program.... but I was far from the norm.

5. It won't really help you. |
|
Remember, the only reason they're doing the vouchers is to get around TABOR. The postsecondaries are still getting HUGE cuts in funding, which they'll have to make up somewhere. Owens wouldn't let them raise tuition to completely make up for the loss in revenue, but he did let it increase some. They'll be looking to charge you for EVERYTHING next year. The voucher will get eaten up by fee increases, tuition increases, parking, etc. etc.
Sorry to burst the bubble.
