Poll question: Is Colorado a Blue State Yet?
The book, "Retro vs Metro" categorizes Colorado as a blue state - or at least a future blue state.

Are we there yet?

1. Purple.`
Colorado Springs is bright, bright red. Boulder is a deep blue. Denver's a little of each. It's a very balanced state, and, in the words of horse-race broadcast journalists, this one's "too close to call."

2. Coloradoians aren't sheep...
they will listen to reason. Their knee-jerk may be to vote Republican, but if a Democrat spends some time here and EDUCATES people on the issues we could easily turn blue.

Colorado is chuck full of environmentalists. We vote for environmental initiatives all the time. I see Hybrids on the roads and I'd see a lot more if someone promised a tax credit to everyone who bought one. It's too bad that issue has dropped off the map because if someone came here and REALLY put that issue back on the table we would turn blue.

Yes, Colorado Springs may be home to Focus on the Family, but we also get front row seats to their loonyness. People know, or at least suspect, that FOF is loony, so don't dignify them by getting in a argument with them. Talk about values as YOU know them and publically dismiss FOF as a right-wing extremist group and then ignore them.

One more thing. There are a lot of military here - hell 4 bases in Colorado Springs alone if you count NORAD, Ft. Carson, Pete Field and AFA. A message like "Support our troops - Bring them home!" will strike a lot of chords.

But I'm not in charge so what the hell do I know.

3. More bases than that
Don't forget Falcon Air Force Base. Plus the Air Force Academy, for that matter. I'm sure there's others. The Springs is quite the military town. And the amount of Jesus freaks is off the scale. I lived there myself for four years, though, so I know there are plenty of exceptions to the rule.

4. Yeah...
Forgot Falcon. Air Force Acadamy is what I ment by AFA.

I lived there for 12 years. How do you get gang bangers to vote Democrat?

5. I think environmental issues alone will push us into the blue.
Coloradoans have a deep love & appreciation of our beautiful state.

I am glad I live in a very progressive pocket, though. I know when I visit my friend out east on the plains, my "Bush, Worst President Ever" bumper sticker does not go over well.

6. Colorado is moving in the right direction
a lot of this is because Republican spent their time focused on a narrow social agenda. Meanwhile Dems talk about health care, jobs and education. But its still a tough state for Democrats. We need good candidates and we need to run good campaigns to win.

7. If we could get rid of asshole Allard
I think we'd have a better chance of being blue. We also have to get a good candidate for governor.....that would help.
