Heads up, Denver! (and surrounding areas)
Tonight at 9:00 KBDI (PBS) will be re-airing "Camp FEMA" during their pledge drive.

Passing itself off as a 'documentary' it's really a vehicle for stirring up more fear of Obama. Using Fox news clips of Bachmann and Beck, and playing old news reel footage from Germany pre-WWII with sinister music in the background, the film strives to equate Obama with Hitler. I managed to watch the whole thing, and was horrified when station personnel congratulated the film's producer and praised him as 'another Michael Moore'. We can be sure that the 9-12ers and teabaggers will latch onto this thing and use it as a source for "facts".

Before it airs tonight I'm calling during their live pledge breaks and 'unpledging', telling them that I do not support the promotion of racism that is the substance of "Camp FEMA". When this aired last week their phone-bank was manned by rightwing supporters of the film, so it's doubtful that negative messages were delivered to station staff.

Watch it if you can, but keep a bucket handy.

1. Still showing...
The station website is listing other upcoming airings of this 'documentary'. It would be a good idea to advise friends in other areas/states as this thing is likely to show up at their local PBS affiliates.

Meanwhile, check out the viewer comments about the film:

2. I watched a little more than half of it last night,
but I was so sleepy I went to bed & missed the rest.

What I first noticed was there were lots & lots of news clips, but nary a one had a date on it. How can they call it a documentary without noting the dates of the clips they used? :eyes: In some cases it wasn't even clear which news channel the clip was from. At first, the clips were predominately from Fox, but later they added some Democracy Now, CNN & major networks.

I was pleased to see them show the Japanese internment camps & mention the fact that over 60% of the people detained were American citizens & that they were held for over two years. I think that's a vital historical fact that lots of people are unaware of & so they rest assured that "The USA would never detain it's own citizens." I do agree with the film maker's contention that the government might be (they said 'is') preparing for civil disobedience due to the bad economy. But I disagree with their claim that these camps are for gun advocates, right-to-lifers, immigration reform advocates & those types of groups.

I didn't see the anti-Obama fear that you mention, or equating Obama with Hitler, but maybe they ratcheted it up in the later part of the show? I did notice a tendency to call out some awful legislation, such as the Patriot Act, the MCA, & enacting things like free speech zones, but they neglected to mention that this shit was passed/started during the Bush years. However, since these pieces of shit legislation are still on the books, & many dems voted for it, the dems are not without blame.

Overall, a weak 'documentary.' Not sure I'll bother trying to catch the rest.

Have you seen Freedom to Fascism? Channel 12 has been airing that as well, although I haven't seen it. I see the Restore the Republic site, which was associated with the Camp Fema movie, is also advertising that documentary.
