Weicker may run as anti-war candidate, challenge Lieberman
Weicker: Anti-War Candidate?
He Lost His U.S. Senate Seat To Joe Lieberman. At 74, He May Try To Win It Back
December 6, 2005
By MARK PAZNIOKAS, Courant Staff Writer

Lowell P. Weicker Jr. is 74 and walks with a cane these days, but he may have one more run left in him - as an anti-war candidate against the Democrat who took away his Senate seat in 1988, Joseph I. Lieberman.

In the blogosphere and on talk radio, the left has been casting about for months for someone to oppose Lieberman's re-election in 2006 over his support of President Bush and the war in Iraq.

Weicker told reporters Monday after a speaking engagement before the Hartford Rotary Club that he reluctantly would consider taking on that role, but only if no other credible anti-war candidate stepped forward.

"I have a very settled life at this stage of the game," said Weicker, who is retired and living in Essex with his wife, Claudia. "I am not at all anxious to jump back into the arena of politics."

1. Wow
I would work as hard for Weicker as I did against him when he ran against Moffet in the 80s. He would be great. Thanks for posting this.

2. How would he run?
Would he change his affiliation to Democrat and run against Joe in the primary?

Or resurrect "A Connecticut Party?"

Whatever -- I'm with him!

3. anybody VS lieberman
I would like to see Weicker switch and run as a Democrat but I would support him or any ant-war candidate against Dino Joe.

He says he will not run as a Democrat. See my other post in this thread.

4. I would support him 100%
I would definitely volunteer my time. DINO Joe has to go! If the campaign is about an unpopular war then I would say Weicker has a chance. Especially when Lieberman gets up there and starts morphing into a Repuke. Does anybody know the war approval rating in CT?

6. He says he will not run as a Democrat.
It is quoted somewhere in another article. I will need to find it for you.

You can kind of see this sentiment anyway even in the current article you listed:
"He said more candidates who are unaffiliated with either major party should seek public office and derided Democrats as 'a bunch of wimps' who are as bad as Bush.

'It's a one-party deal. That's what we've come to,' he said."
