Is Joe gathering signatures to put "CT for Lieberman" on Nov. ballot? |
|
Has anyone actually seen canvassers gathering signatures to put Joe on the November ballot as an independent? I know he filed the paperwork to create his vanity party weeks ago but has he launched the signature drive yet? As I understand it he has to file the petitions with the Secretary of State on the day after the primary. How much longer can he wait to start getting the signatures?
I think it will give Lamont a boost if the press starts reporting that Joe is taking the final step to run as an independant. Right now Joe's supporters can still claim that he's a "Good Democrat"; once he starts the petition drive that claim becomes almost impossible to defend.

1. He announced he was starting a few weeks back |

To collect signatures. I think that is part of the reason Lamont got a bump in the polls last week when they came out.
Heck, I was already leaning towards Lamont, and that was the final nail in the coffin.
That said, I have not gotten any calls or solicitations for signatures. 7,500 signatures is not a huge amount, so he will likely be going to his closest allies & supporters - CT residents who have donated to him before.

2. won't be darkening my door. I have a Lamont sign out front |

but I am in Joe's old neighborhood, so I'll bet the petitioners are out. Prolly visiting the same houses I visited a few months ago when I walked the precinct for Ned collecting signatures. There are some strong Joe supporters here in Westville.
