Subject: Please -- Help Stop the Escalation

To My Connecticut Representatives,

These coming weeks are vital. Will we enter into a misguided escalationof the Iraq, putting more American troops at risk? Or will Congressfinally rein in President Bush and his disastrous war plans? States have a unique role to play in this debate. Any attempt toescalate the war poses grave dangers to the National Guard -- a keyemergency responder to natural diasters for state governments. This proposed escalation is opposed by military experts who know itthreatens our military and will do nothing to end the civil war in Iraq.It is also opposed strongly by the men and women who are already there. It is a drop in the bucket, an offering that will not make a difference, except to put more of our men and women in harm's way. Please, make it clear that this escalation is a poor idea and opposed bythe people of our state: Introduce a resolution opposing escalation inIraq. Details on what states can do regarding Iraq, the consequences ofescalation, and model resolution language are all available from theProgressive States Network: http://www.progressivestates.org/iraq Please, stand with the vast majority of Americans who understand that this latest plan is nothing more than a giant gamble. Thank you, Lindsay
