My published LTTE-- Why Punish Rape Victim With Risk Of Pregnancy?
Why Punish Rape Victim With Risk Of Pregnancy?

"Another abuse of the pro-abortion side is to disguise Plan B as compassion for rape victims," states the writer of a letter titled "'Plan B' shouldn't be forced on Catholics," published May 7. In Biblical times, raped women could either be stoned to death because rape was considered a form of adultery (Deuteronomy 22:23-24) or forced to marry her rapist (Deuteronomy 22:28-29). Today, we reject those brutal concepts, so why should society punish rape victims by forcing them to risk their health and life with an unwanted pregnancy?

The anti-choice movement claims that life begins at conception, but nature already aborts two-thirds of all conceptions. Plan B doesn't cause abortions. Women choosing Plan B are trying to prevent a pregnancy from happening in the first place, by impeding conception or the implantation of a fertilized egg in her uterus.

The anti-choice movement promotes adoption in place of abortion, but thousands of children in this country are already up for adoption, and no one wants them. Until all children can find adoptive parents, forcing the completion of an unwanted pregnancy usually results in adding more stress to an already overburdened child care system by creating more institutionally raised children.

Finally, the Catholic Church lost all credibility on caring for children when they protected pedophile priests from prosecution for decades.

Let's face it. The real goal of the male-supremacist religious right is to strip all women of their civil rights, especially reproductive rights, and to reduce women to baby-producing machines.
