Travel to the September 15th demonstration in DC? "Peace Trains"? |
|
Mr. Tesha and I would like to travel to the September 15th anti-war/pro-impeachment demonstration in Washington, but I have to admit that it's getting tougher and tougher for our old bones to make these "overnight" sort of jaunts down to our nation's capital.
At the moment, there's no bus from our immediate area; we're considering riding the Amtrak "red-eye" down and the afternoon train back north (as we've done in the past), but in the past, there have also been chartered trains from New Haven, CT (at least to the demos down in NYC; not sure about DC).
Does anyone know who used to organize the "Peace Trains" and how to get in contact with them?
And, of course, feel free to use this thread to discuss anything else about travelling to the demonstration.

1. I checked your profile and it says you are in Nashua, NH. |

I can think of no way unless you flew by plane each way you would make it to DC from Nashua, NH without it being an overnight trip. I am in CT and I am taking a CT ANSWER bus out of New London but it leaves the night before. the "peace train" trains you spoke of out of New Haven were reserved metro-north trains that are part of the NYC commuter system and they don't go to DC. There used to be an ANSWER guy in your area that would coordinate buses from there back in the early days of the war but apparently he isn't around doing that anymore. He used to run the AIDS outreach program in Nashua. I haven't talked to him in a loong time.
I am in the Nashua, NH area quite often, btw. My sister lives in Hollis. :hi:
