My LTTE on the Jim Calhoun salary flap
It was published today in The New London Day.

Millionaire coach will feel economic effects

Another prominent college men's basketball coach was asked about his salary, but he handled the question more diplomatically than Jim Calhoun.

”There's no way to answer that question. … if I say, 'Yeah,' then somebody's going to call and say, 'Give it all to me back.' If you say 'No,' then you come across as being insensitive…,” said University of North Carolina men's basketball coach Roy Williams.

”I've got a son that's part of the nation's unemployed. ... (he) thinks he's going to have a job tonight. But, I said 'Son, people aren't hiring, they're letting people go.' … I am sensitive. It is a tough time.” (For more, log onto abclocal.go.com/wtvd and search for “Williams” )

I've never been a Jim Calhoun fan. He's a male chauvinist who has publicly insulted women's basketball fans and believes televising women's basketball games takes attention from the men's teams.

Here's something that our millionaire coach should meditate upon: When vast numbers of ordinary people lose their jobs, their primary source of income, they won't have extra cash to spend on purchasing tickets to Mr. Calhoun's games or buying the products of his television sponsors.

Here’s a diary with video about the coach’s salary question and his response Krayeske gets under UConn's Jim Calhoun's skin

Here’s an article that sums up Jim Calhoun -- Mad Dog: UConn Huskies coach Jim Calhoun is rabid — and rich!
