I'm cross posting this about the Publix Deli Counter Church Service
I found some contacts after this sunk into the abyss of hell; like we are all heading according to the reading material next to the loafs of American Cheese in the Publix Deli Counter.

The more I think about the damn church service I am being forced to stand by while holding the green ticket that tells me when they will call my number and let me get my stuff and get out of that particular hell; the more I want to slam my metal buggy into the metal kiosk and fling books about how to submit to your husband and how to organize your closets according to the Ten Commandments into pre-packaged plastic tubs of good old fashioned church potato salad.

The ironies are too many to mention.

I know this crap only happens in the Republican counties in Florida and in other states........and that makes me even madder.

Here is some information from the Publix page.

Our Consumer Relations department is open 8 am to 5:30 pm (Eastern time), Monday through Friday. We are closed Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

You may contact Consumer Relations by phone or mail at:

Publix Super Markets Corporate Office
ATTN: Consumer Relations
PO Box 407
Lakeland, FL 33802-0407
800-242-1227 (store-related comments only)

To contact associates at our corporate office, please call 863-688-1188.

I don't think a store number is important. Tell them you saw it in Fort Myers and Estero Florida.

6. My Publix store has the self help near the pharmacy -
any sort of 'non' fiction (loosely using the term) from Dr Phil to Dobson or "Butter Busters" are on the round turnstile 'thingies' near the pharmacy.

Now - for full disclosure here - I am a new/used online book dealer and I have found that the Dobsons of this world sell well, even used they retain their value. However, I sell lots of books of all stripes, sizes, and importantly taste!

Any Floridians (or ANY DUer) that would like to support another - Please check out all my inventory from books, movies and CD's for sale at axollotsbooks.booksupply.org and if you find something you really like, let me know you are from DU, for discounts etc!

Very handy over the holidays - I'll even gift-wrap FREE for you too!

I've been with DU since before the shock-n-awe of 2003 - but as you can tell from my post count, I tend to lurk. Hubby reads DU everyday - but *never* posts. He introduced me to the site when we had first met - back in 2002.

Cheers

2. First hand from an employee
I work at a Publix in Tampa and can tell you that nothing pisses me off more than seeing these books convieniently placed in front of the pharmacy (at least at my store) and down the aisle in convieniently placed spots with the rest of the novels. But it doesn't surprise me, given that most of the managers I have worked for are die hard Repugs and it is headquartered in a very red area of the state. As someone mentioned in another thread, if there is a market for it, by all means stock it, but don't force it on others, like myself, who don't associate with any particular religious doctrine. I can tell you though, that I cannot bring this to the attention of any of my managers, because in my 3 years with the company, I can tell you first hand that complaints by employees are swept under the rug and in most cases, completely ignored. If you want anything done, customers must be the ones that bring this to the companies attention.

3. don't go to Publix
shop elsewhere.
I stop in the one next to my house sometimes for small things but generally shop somewhere else.

I was amazed to see that they have plastic 'screens' that they place in front of magazine covers that are too racey.
(they're soooo bad they have to cover them up... but they're OK selling them anyways)

so... my game is to move as many of them as I can whenever I go in.

5. a little funny - ha-ha, 'before' moving to the states........
the only time I had seen those plastic things by magazines, like The Globe etc was when the magazine was sold out (they used to read 'refill with brand x' - whatever was the local paper rag). I used to, systematically, move the mags to the front (LOL) thinking, that plastic 'thingie' shouldn't be in the way........obviously, the mags were not 'out of stock'!

No one ever told me to stop, but I eventually figured it out! OH MY OWN NAIVETE! tee-hee!

I love Publix grocers and they are by far not the ONLY store to use those little "shhhh, this is mommy porn" dividers - all the stores have them. I live in a very RED county of Clay in NE FL and moved here from Australia - talk about culture shock!

Publix, still has the BEST deli meat available in the NE part of the State though! And Publix itself is fairly 'liberal' to use the term loosely, compared with *gasp* Winn Dixie!

Cheers
Sandy

8. LOL - I like the term 'mommy porn dividers'
We moved here from Ca and had honestly never seen those things before.
My wife thought I was nuts when I first told her what I thought they for.

4. The one in Hunters Creek is also like that...
why don't they have gossip magazines instead? Or for that matter... cooking books? Yeah... cooking books that would make us want to spend more money in their store.

7. Not to be flippant, Maraya1969 but...
why would you shop at a place that you so clearly dislike?

I don't shop at Publix because I think the prices are outrageous and the value isn't there for me. I grocery shop at small locally owned shops and Whole Foods Market here in Sarasota.

I know it's a little off subject but if you hate it so much why do you aggravate yourself and shop there?

9. I now go to Sweetbay which opened right across from Publix
They are Hannaford's up in Maine. My daughter went to college in Portland and I always like them up there.

I have not seen any religious items around.
