1. Looks like a direct hit on the Keys.. |
|
sure, just because I'm looking at property there.
Maybe, the price will come down after the storm.

17. My cousin just bought a spec. house there -- and she is stressing -- |
|
not because of Ernesto -- but because of the cool down in the market. She put too much into the property (Key Largo)and ... well you know the story. I am watching it start to rain buckets right now in Miami.

I'm glad we moved, but still nervous for all the people still living down there. I hope it all turns out well for you.

I forgot about that fabulous power company, FPL. You can count on the power going out.

7. I have Lake Worth Utilities - We Will Be OUT |
|
Every year there is a storm (not just a hurricane) we lose power in Lake Worth. They are much worse than FPL. I don't know if anyone else has a local utility in Florida, but ours here is the worst. http://www.lakeworthlessutility.com

10. Gotta get the gas this evening |
|
I looked at the lines for gas around here and it doesn't look good. People panic a little too much and then they wait in line all day. Hopefully by the time I get off work there will be gas around here.
My hubby has the generator ready!!! Let's hope we are able to keep the phone service.
Good luck everyone!!!

|
Dropping like 20" of rain in one clip on Cuba.
Said it's not the wind but the rain that is the concern.
Where are you located?
I'll look for fresh photos.
Good Luck, y'all...

14. upgraded? its still a 40mph storm. |
|
im hoping it stays to the east of us and at a reasonable forward motion. that will keep the rainfall down. the east side looks to be the nastier one.

15. A blurb of news from the LBN site |
|
Quote from Forecaster Discussion 15, 0500 EDT "The intensity forecast remains quite complicated due to possible land interactions with Cuba. If Ernesto emerges sooner and a little farther north off the coast of Cuba...then the cyclone will have more time to strengthen over very warm SSTs of 86-88f and in a very favorable upper-level flow regime. The SHIPS intensity model is forecasting near-zero vertical wind shear...just as Ernesto is approaching the southern Florida Peninsula in 48 hours. These conditions would favor the possibility of Ernesto becoming a category 2 or even a category 3 hurricane before making landfall along the Florida coast."

They go well with Zapps or BBQ Lays. It's all part of my master plan to retain as much fluid as possible, so that I won't have to pee when the toilets won't flush.

21. hunkered-down in Melbourne |
|
reporting from the Melbourne Causeway (192) -- :)
just moved into a house on the west bank (mainland) of the Indian River. not worried and not evacuating and i don't mean to sound like a total idiot, but for totally personal reasons, i'm looking forward to a decent storm.
stocked-up on water and ice yesterday -- gas stations on barrier islands were running out of gas, but in terms of food hoarding, i've seen snow predictions in nashville produce more frenzy.
haven't been out today at all, so this was the feeling as of 24 hours ago. keeping my eye on the news and if it looks like more than "a decent storm" i'll move a little farther inland with friends.
i'll keep ya'll posted as long as there's power.
cheers!

got all the secondary plans in place. but honestly, i'm too broke to put an evac plan in motion.
so far there's not been an official evacuation order.
i'm mostly worried about battening down yard things and hoping the roof doesn't blow off of this hundred year old river house.

25. My husband runs a beachfront resort in Daytona |
|
I think we're going to go up there tomorrow morning and stay for the night. He feels like he needs to stay on property, and I understand. They close the bridges to beachside, and I just really hate to be stuck without him. At least there we'll have a generator, massive concrete building, and a nice big covered parking garage. I lost a car to a relatively minor hurricane in West Palm in 1999, and I'd like to prevent that happening again!

that would make this storm a real problem. maybe I should do the right thing and just go in. . . wait. what's gotten ahold of me? it must be the early symptoms of cabin fever starting to creep in. no. must keep focused. avoid work.
Update: Going to work. Thanks a lot Ernesto. Pussy.

Then we get to go through a "storm" with AC, TV, cable, and the Internet! After all the hurricanes and extended power outages, Ernesto was like a gift from the weather gods.

and thank God I got to take it off, becuase Tuesday I rung in the storm in the way many South Floridians do -- by getting ragingly blotto on bourbon and beer. So, I needed the recovery
