Clint Curtis still needs your help
The Tipping Point for Election Reform is here

After working for over six years to get the word out that there is a SERIOUS PROBLEM with our voting system, Washington has finally introduced bills to bring about Election Reform. Congressman Rush Holt has introduced Bill HR818 Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act*, Senator Nelson has introduced the companion bill in the Senate. Even Governor Crist with the encouragement of Congressman Robert Wexler is demanding a Paper Ballot. Diane Feinstein has called for an investigation by the GAO and National Institute of Standards and Technology into the Jennings election. Just imagine where this country would be if people had listened to Clint back in 2003 or even 2005 when he testified before Congress……

They are listening now. By the end of March, Clint will have gone to Washington three times. He will have spoken with over 40 Congressional Offices including Rush Holt. Corrine Brown, Alcee Hastings, Carolyn Kilpatrick , Diane Feinstein, Bill Nelson, Diane Watson. We are meeting with the NAACP , John Conyers and others over the week of March 13-16th. Clint’s documentary Truth in the Booth the Clint Curtis Story is circulating the Hill. Let’s see it bringing about the right and perfect results.

Speaking of Washington , your financial support would be most appreciated. Each trip costs about $1000 , flights, lodging, food. All contributions gratefully received at www.clintcurtis.com.

The good news is that the Tipping Point for Election Reform is here. The people we have spoken with in Washington are “impressed with data” we have collected with our Walking for Democracy. They say what we are doing in the field and on the Hill is the way to make an impact. We are giving them the hard data needed to show that these machines do not count accurately. When it is time for Congress to make a ruling on our Contest, they will have intimate knowledge of what our challenge is all about.

That is where YOU come in. We need more data to support our Contest before the State and Congress. Come for an hour or two or enjoy the afternoon helping to restore our Democracy. This weekend we will be gathering affidavits in Seminole Precinct 52.

Help us make a difference!
Contact marty 954-732-1112 or marty {at} go-nci.com

We need you in the evenings during the week in Precinct 66
S Hunt’s Club Blvd & 436
Apopka
Off 436 West of I – 4 about 9 miles

We're just 20 votes to go over the top and win that Precinct!!!
Let me know if you can help after work for an hour .

If walking is not your thing, how about a CONTRIBUTION www.clintcurtis.com . Many thanks in advance for your gift to helping us restore our Democracy.

*Rush Holt’s Bill HR 818 in general is a well thought out and has carefully analyzed what is necessary to return voter confidence to our election system and to restore our Democracy. It would be useful to amend a few areas so that it will prevent our electoral system from being vulnerable to future hacks. Next week please go to www.Clintcurtis.com for Clint’s suggestions for the Holt Bill.

Clint has sent Congressman Holt suggestions from a Computer Programmer’s Perspective that will ensure that no one can hack into the voting system either internally or externally. These measures along with the legislation in HRBill 818 will ensure free, fair and verifiable elections for all Americans.

1. Latest update 3/29
WALKING FOR DEMOCRACY

Going Over the Top And Washington, DC Update

I know…you wonder when I am going to stop asking you to Walk for Democracy…. As soon as we finish the last two precincts! So, the more people we have to Walk, the sooner we can get them finished. I need 6 people to get Clint Over the Top in Precinct 66. Julie needs two people to help her in Precinct 52. Over the Top means that Clint received more votes overall than the Official Results show. He all ready has a greater percentage than the Official Results show – in Precinct 66 he won over 80% of the Democrat and Independent vote vs the 57% the Official Results say he received. NOW, we want to show he also received enough votes to WIN the Precinct.

Clint has asked several of the Congressional offices to open an Independent Investigation into his race. Each office has commented about how impressed they are with data we have gathered. The more conclusive the data, the stronger his case. The stronger his case, the greater the possible is to get an Independent Investigation. With an Independent Investigation, all the shenanigans in Florida can be revealed! I wonder how many heads will roll…..

We need your help. Come for a couple of hours or enjoy the day. Now is time to make that special effort. Or if you prefer, go to www.clintcurtis.com and make a contribution that will be used for the Discovery work that needs to be done and to defray the Washington expenses.

Washington Update

Lobbying

PDA Grassroots Organizing Conference

Friday we arrived in time to join the PDA in lobbing at Barbara Lee’s office. Van Neralla met with us to discuss the Congresswomen’s vote on the Iraq bill and the progress he saw in rallying Democrats in Congress to stop funding the war. Mr Neralla has been a big supporter of PDA’s agenda. We briefly stopped Dennis Kucinich’s office to reconnect before we visited with Dana Thompson from Maxine Waters office and Lisa Sherman from Susan Davis’ office. Clint discussed an Independent Investigation and how our data can easily be replicated to show that the machines do in fact not tally votes correctly. Ideas were explored on how to get amendments to the Holt Bill introduced that would satisfy the election integrity groups and members of Congress and the Senate so it will ultimately be passed and our Democracy restored.

We then went off to the PDA Conference held at the University of DC law School. Eighty PDA members enjoyed a weekend filled with motivational speeches from Congressional staff and noted election reform leaders including: Medea Benjamin, Code Pink, Marilyn Clement Health Care Now, Bill Fletcher Center for Labor Renewal , Jim Clarke COS of Diane Watson , Bill Gould CPC Exec Dir, Tim Carpenter PDA Exe Director and many others. We had a great meeting with Luis Cuevas who is meeting with us April 14th in Lady Lake , Fl to discuss establishing and augmenting PDA in District 24 and setting up training for Grassroots Organizing. PDA endorsed Clint in 2006 and we look forward to working them again in 08.

ACTION

Let me know if you would like to join us at this organizational meeting April 14th. Marty {at} go-nci.com 954-732-1112

Later in the conference we had the chance to meet with a member of the DNC and other election reform leaders to discuss the Holt bill and to recommend amendments to restore our Democracy.

After the conference ended on Sunday and before the UA Union dinner, we joined dedicated volunteer Tiffane and her Clint-enthusiast daughter Brittany Coe at the Washington Zoo. Brittany tells EVERYone about Clint Curtis! See attached pictures. And her mom waits for hours on the phone to get on shows like Mike Malloy and Tom Hartmann to let everyone know about what Clint is doing and to ask for contributions! In case you would like to join people across the country that contributed over a $1,200 last week, go to www.clintcurtis.com .

Monday as member of UA 295 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters of Daytona, Clint met with other union representatives at Senator Nelson’s office to lobby to demand for an Industry Standard Best Value type contract vs a Low Bid contract on a huge project that is being built at NASA. At present, there is a five year “Sweet Heart Deal Contract” with guess who….. Kellogg Brown and Root the construction arm of Halliburton! Now what is happening is that with a “Wink and a Nod” they are letting their subcontractors bid at their 2003 labor rates vs 2007 as required by the Davis Bacon Act. This Congressional Act ensures tax payers get the best value for their dollar by requiring wages to be at the prevailing rate. So Kellogg Brown and Root sub-contractors have an advantage and the lowest bid.

Our Space program and YOUR tax dollars deserves the Industry Standard Best Value type contract to ensure that we get the best value for our dollar. We want to ensure members of our community are a part of this important and lucrative contract to build Our Space Center . For ever dollar spent on a contract where citizens from the local community are employed, eight dollars goes back into the community. Historically, in every community where Kellogg Brown and Root /Halliburton contractors have been used crime and drug abuse increases and social services and schools districts are burdened.

ACTION

Let Senator Nelson know you want fair labor practices, contracts open to all qualified bidders, to demand Industry Standard Best Value type contract as required by the David Bacon Act and local workers used to support our communities. http://billnelson.senate.gov/

After meeting with Nelson’s office, we headed off to People for American Way’s office across town. We had a good sharing of ideas with David Becker, Senior Staff Attorney. He is working on the Jennings ’ case. We discussed ways in which our data along with an Independent Investigation could help the Jennings’ case and reveal the real problems that exist in Florida. We have hard data that shows the machines don’t work. She has fuzzy votes that can’t be found. The Holt Bill and how to bring about amendments that would ensure transparent elections were also discussed.

All in all the trips to Washington have been a fabulous experience and many good connections made. You know you have been on the Hill awhile when staffers call you by name in the lunch room and you can greet them by name in the bathroom. Now to get the data we need!

Call me at 954-732-1112 marty {at} go-nci.com and let me know you will give a couple of hours to this important work. Or Contribute at www.clintcurtis.com

PLEASE TELL THEM what we did not have is news media coverage. What we do have is hard evidence. We just need them to do an independent investigation to verify the results. This is about our Democracy. It is about the Truth. It is about our vote not partisan politics.

The Congressional Contest filed by Clint Curtis is a Contest where the results of the election can be proven. Unlike Christine Jennings, whose loss was caused by 18,000 missing votes that unfortunately can never be found, Clint Curtis for Congress Campaign has found and tabulated data from actual voters that conclusively proves that Mr Curtis received more votes than the official results recorded.

The reason Mr Curtis did not conceded is that although there was an apparent 16% loss, this loss did not reflect the Zogby Poll taken just weeks before the election that showed us within 2% points nor by the polling conducted by the online vote verification tool www.VoteNow2006.net . The Zogby Poll also revealed that Curtis was leading among likely voters who describe themselves as Independents by a full 11 points. The opponents lead was just 45% to 43%, with one in ten (10%) undecided.

The so called wide margin of 16 points in Mr Curtis’ race is the exact reason it possible to find where the count was not accurate. If the results were closer like a 51/49 split or 369 votes as in Jennings race, it would have been nearly impossible to determine whether or not the official results were accurate. Every voter would have to be contacted to find the few votes that may not have been recorded accurately.

On virtually every block walked by volunteers, the results have shown that more votes were cast for Clint Curtis than officially recorded. Walking for Democracy, the volunteers gathered sworn affidavits signed by the voters in District 24 as to how they voted for Governor, Congress and Amendment Three. The Governor’s race and Amendment Three were control questions. The results from that data confirm the official results, while the data in this Congressional race is shown to be inaccurate.

For example in Precinct 66 in Seminole County (highlighted below), official results showed that Mr Curtis received 57% of the Democratic and Independent vote. According to the affidavits gathered however, he received over 80% of that vote. In each of the precincts that have been walked, he has received from 6% - 22% more Democratic and Independent votes than the official results.

This simple method of determining how voters actually cast their ballot, can be independently verified. Congress can recruit a non-partisan group of volunteers or pay personnel to gather affidavits from District 24 voters. The cost is minimal and results easily obtainable. Congress owes it to the American people to determine once and for all whether or not the electronic voting machines counted accurately. This is not about partisan politics. This is about our Democracy.

Thank you for your willingness to do what is right for America .

4. Message from the Curtis campaign
Clint will continue to work to get your vote to count.

You all are INCREDIBLE! Thank you so very much for making the Herculean effort, and on such short notice (we only found out about the Dismissal Hearing on Sunday afternoon from a staffer who was kind enough to call me) to get in touch with Congress. I heard from one office that people from ALL across the country were calling and emailing. Little did they know what a strong and fabulous Grassroots Organization Clint Curtis for Congress has! It is amazing how our BLOGGERS, and great friends PDA and P.E.N., and each of you have reached out to so many people across the country, and ultimately around the world and then they were willing to take action and call and email! Thank you!

As you will see in the Press Release below – Congress dismissed our Contest. Why? The House Committee on Administration’s explanation according to a staffer present was that “due to secrecy of ballot rules, affidavits cannot be recognized.” Another staffer emailed to Bradblog see http://www.bradblog.com/?p=4527 In response to some of these points, the staffer wrote to us: "I agree about the reasoning for why there's no other evidence, but without it, there was nothing we could do. You just can't expect people to tell you who they voted for to your face and use that in court." Imagine that! What message is Congress giving the American people?

Clint is undaunted and determined to ensure your vote. We are going to continue to ask for an Independent Investigation. This has never been about Feeney’s seat (We will have opportunity soon enough for perhaps a special election as soon as the FBI gets done with him). It has always been about the vote – YOUR vote and the vote of every American.

ACTION

Call and Email Congress Again
Continue to let Congress know how you feel about them dismissing our Contest, without a hearing and without reviewing all the evidence we have collected. Ask them to hold an Independent Investigation. Tell them this is about everyone’s vote counting, not partisan politics. The investigation would give them as much evidence as they need. Should they get access to the source code, we have experts ready to blueprint them! In the meantime, affidavits are the only reliable way to know if the voting machines counted accurately.

ST Pete Times DOESN’T Get it

They said in essence “Losers – Get Over it! “ The only losers with this decision is the American People. This is not about gaining seats in the Congress. Walking for Democracy is just that – about our Democracy. It is about getting every vote to count. Clint’s votes can be found. Jennings votes, unfortunately, can never be found. People will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on the Jennings phantom votes and not a dime on gathering votes we know they can find.

5. Send Clint to Democracyfest
This weekend Clint and I would like to attend the Democracy Fest (www.democracyfest.net ) in New Hampshire . He was asked to attend by several people who wanted to speak with him about Election Reform issues. Our goal is to get an opportunity to meet with Howard Dean and show him Clint is a serious candidate. We want to let the DNC know not only citizens from District 24 are fed up with Feeney’s corruption, but also the nation. A Congressman of honesty and integrity is needed in Washington and we have just the man – Clint Curtis. We can unseat Feeney and with DNC backing our job will be much easier.

We are also looking forward to taking advantage of the training that is offered so that I can share it with everyone on our team (http://www.democracyfest.net/Schedule )

The cost of the trip is $1153

We need to raise the money by Friday. Any and all contributions are most welcome. Thank you for enabling this trip to happen. Being in the right place at the right time is what politics is all about and getting training that can be shared with our volunteers will give depth to our team.

Speaking of training, June 24th – 28th I have been accepted to the Wellstone Advanced Campaign Management School . This will be a fabulous opportunity for in depth training and the nuts and bolts of it all. The knowledge gained will benefit every one working with the Campaign

The Cost of training $685.59

Our Goal is $2,000. Your support today of these trips would be most appreciated. www.clintcurtis.com Click on the Donation icon or Victory Circle Pledge Free gifts for monthly donations of just $10 or more.

8. DFA and Camp Wellstone training for next run
WELLSTONE

Thank you to those who gave to support my training June 23- 28th in Minnesota at Wellstone Advanced Campaign Management School . It has given me a strong foundation to develop a winning Campaign Strategy. There were 145 in attendance. That was one of the best parts – to meet and collaborate with so many talented and dedicated people determined to make a difference.

We were in class from 8:30 – mid-night most days with an hour for lunch and dinner and a 15 minute break at some point. Trainers from around the country lectured on every aspect of a successful campaign. In teams, we then worked until the wee hours of the morning creating radio ads one night and on another, designing a plan to target undecided, persuadable voters with canvassing, direct mail and phone banking followed by a Get Out the Vote (GOTV) strategy for early voting and election day.

I took copious notes and they gave us great materials from which to develop our plans. Let me know if you would like to see them.

DFA TRAINING

Saturday June 30th was the Democracy for America Training. I joined several of our team members- Charlie Wiggins from Volusia, Tyler Weisman from Seminole and from the Brevard DEC Charlie and Edna Shannon, Gray Booth, and Ann Coleman. Maggie DeVane whom I met at Wellstone and who lives in Orange Co was there as well. It was a great follow up to Wellstone for me as it helped to solidify some of the concepts, while adding new insight into other areas. All of us felt it was a great start in training our team. As alumni, we have access to the DFA trainers which will be a big help. We also will be working with the Progressive Democrats of America (PDA). They have generously offered to hold a training session one weekend this summer in District 24. I will let you know when as soon as we set a date.

4th of JULY

Tyler Weisman and Kurt Whitney did a great job arranging for us to have a tent at the Winter Springs Celebration. Balloons, candy and a great crew of team members including Jerry Halberg enabled us to get 145 signatures on the petition to have Clint run. Republicans as well as Democrats signed. If this is any indication for the trend in the voters, we will have a great year

FUND RAISING

Clint has begun fundraising. We have set up Candidate Call Times and have a great list with which to work. Fund raising will be the key to getting endorsements from large organizations and donations from Political Action Committees (PAC). Our goal is $200,000 by September 30. With that, doors will fly open to us. Go to www.clintcurits.com and pledge by joining our Victory Circle . $10, $25 , even $5 per month will mean we can budget our money and know just when we can send out a mailing, buy an ad , hold an event. Be a part of making it happen. www.clintcurtis.com. You can make a difference.

TEAM MEETING

Our first official VICTORY TEAM MEETING will be Thursday July 19th at 7:00 PM at Kurt Whitney’s house in Oviedo . We will be planning the Campaign Launch Party to be held in September and Halloween Ball as well as discussing the overall plans for the campaign. Let me know you will be joining us 954-732-1112 or martyward
I am looking forward to working with you to Victory in 2008.

9. Feeney is probably going down. Let's hope so.
Dear Friend,

First of all, thank you. I am so grateful to you for everything you have done as a member of my campaign team. Together we fought hard to defeat Tom Feeney and, above all, to defend the integrity of our elections. With your help, we were able to contact tens of thousands of voters, and through the power of the internet, millions of Americans also heard our voice.

They certainly heard us in Tallahassee. Earlier this year, the state of Florida passed legislation that mandates the production of a verifiable paper record for every vote cast in a Florida election. The passage of this legislation was a huge success and it would not have been possible without you. As of this moment there are also five bills before Congress that have the potential to bring about true election reform on a national scale. So the notice of contest we filed in Congress following the general election may not have produced our desired result—a re-vote—but it did force Congress to recognize the problem. And now they are on the verge of correcting it once and for all.

We were unsuccessful last year in our effort to defeat Tom Feeney, though we did come very close. A Zogby Poll conducted a few weeks before the election revealed that I was within two points of Feeney, with 10% of the electorate still undecided. It was a hard fought campaign, but ultimately, we lost the election for one simple reason. Tom Feeney outspent us 26 to 1.

That's not going to happen again. Tom Feeney is now under federal investigation for his dealings with Jack Abramoff and his days are numbered. Meanwhile, our campaign—because of you!—has never been stronger. According to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), our campaign to defeat Tom Feeney is now one of the top three races in the country!

We have always had a strong campaign, but now we have the momentum we've been waiting for. Your continuing support, combined with Florida's recent election reform, has set us on a collision course with history. On November 4, 2008 we will do what so many have said we could never do: We will defeat Tom Feeney and make our voice heard in the halls of Congress for years to come!

Once again, thank you so much for all of your time and support.

Best regards,
Clint Curtis

P.S. I want you to be among the first to know that we have exciting plans scheduled for mid-September. I will be sending you details soon so you can celebrate along with us in person or virtually on YouTube. Stay tuned!

Fund Raising

We have a goal to raise $250,000 by the FEC filing date of Sept 30th. We need to show the DCCC that Clint is the best candidate. For them only money talks. Clint has been Dialing for Dollars most every day. Money has begun to flow. Your contribution to reach our goal is most welcome. Go to http://www.actblue.com/page/clintcurtis . We don’t want the DCCC to put up a bobble head primary candidate who will just promise the world and not deliver. We must do better. Our country is at stake! We need someone who will stand up for us and do what is right for America , right for your best interest. Clint Curtis is that candidate. District 24 is one of the three top targeted seats in the country. We have the best candidate to give Feeney the boot. We need your help more than ever. With a good showing now, the coffers of the moneyed donors will open to the campaign and the press will take note. Having the press will be a big advantage. Clint’s message will get out and District 24 turn Blue.

The first 250 people to give $100 will receive a Victory Circle Pin to commemorate your commitment to new leadership and bringing us to our goal of $250,000 by Sept 30th. Be one of the first to receive this collector’s pin. http://www.actblue.com/page/clintcurtis. If you would rather give $10, $15, $25 or more by the month so we can budget our funds and know just when we can send out a mailer, print our palm cards, or produce an ad go to www.clintcurtis.com and click on the Victory Circle. Every dollar counts. All contributions are gratefully received.

We have the team. We have the determination. We have the candidate – Clint Curtis Leadership for a Change. With your help we will have the money. http://www.actblue.com/page/clintcurtis.
