Our view: Another day, another sellout
State Farm's massive policy dumping again shows lawmakers owned by the industry
Disgusting.
State Farm Florida now says its wants to dump 50,000 more customers living along the state's coastline. That's on top of 9,000 the company dropped since January, including many in Brevard County.
Company spokesman Justin Glover says it's tough, "but if we run out of money, we can't cut claim checks."
Please.
State Farm Florida's parent company made a record $5.32 billion last year.
For that, its CEO got a nice, fat $11.6 million dollars in pay, up 82 percent over his 2005 take.
Florida lawmakers who pretend to fall for that "we can't pay" claim from insurers, take note: The voters are getting wise.
You sold them out and actions such as State Farm's continue to prove it.
As for Gov. Charlie Crist, he claims insurers said they'd slash rates if the state provided cheap back-up insurance.
But the companies say they never promised big cuts.
