Do any of you Georgians feel like spectators today?
Today is bittersweet for me. We Dems have a real chance to get control of at least one of the houses of congress, yet here in Georgia there is little to no chance of the status quo being upturned. I feel a bit like someone living in a third-world dictatorship watching a democratic election on CNN.

1. I know...
up in my neck of the woods there isn't even a serious challenge to Gingrey. Its still going to be a great day for the party and I hope we get a little more action the next time. If our party controls the House and or Senate, it should draw more people over to our side, candidates and supporters. Maybe in 2 years, it will look better for Georgia. So is Sonny going to win in a walk or what? And what about the Lt Governor race, looked like we have a decent candidate there. But I haven't read up on his chances.

2. Yep Sonny will win in a walk - but what did we really expect running Taylor
Taylor and Cox did each other in during the primary - giving Doughboy all the ammo he needed against Taylor. I'm sure Cagle will win as well - judging from the signs around where I live. I hope you're right and the state party will start grooming some real candidates for 08. We have got to get some serious progressive candidates from the metro area and quit going after these south Georgia republican-lite characters.

4. The state party won't change anything
There will not be a significant change until there is a major shake up in the makeup of the state party officers, not just Bobby Kahn, but all of them.

3. Vote anyway, dammit!
I voted because I care about my local school board elections, the board of my soil & water conservation district, Jim Martin for Lt. Gov., etc. etc.

11. Thank you! There are two many important races and referendums
on the ballots to even consider not voting.
Get off your sorry asses and go vote, damnit! Your vote DOES matter!

5. a little.
I'm still enjoying laughing at all the jackoffs holding "Sonny" signs on streetcorners around here, knowing that he could soon be in a minority among governors. :D

It's still a great day, friends. :hi:

6. A little bit
And it makes me a bit sad knowing that the rest of the country is waking up and these people still blindly reach for their cup of daily kool-aid. Even people that are barely feeding their families still vote for these idiots.

7. How do we fix it
RubyDuby, how do we fix the GA party? I have lived in North Fulton for several years and it appears there is a slow (but apparent) increase in the number of Dems. It might be the influx of people from more liberal states or a slow change in the local attitude. I'm not sure which.

I have attended a few of the local party meetings but they don't seem to change anything. Just a lot of whining. How do we go about forcing a change at the county and state level?

20. I live in Cherokee County and you don't have any choice.
All the candidates are Republican. I voted straight Democratic ticket and voted for only one Republican. That was Chip Rogers because I like his views on animal cruelty.

9. I went, even though I knew it would mostly be a waste
Strike 1) Diebold
Strike 2) Too many blind and hateful Republicans in this state
Strike 3) Heavy rain

But I owed it to my ancestors who died fighting for my right to vote.

12. me too
I went (never had any intention not to - it's still important). I, of course, left all my local races blank, though, since all of the local races were repugs running unopposed. I get so sick of my local Dem party - they haven't even run a single candidate in all the years I have lived here. But the demographics of my county is changing. 50% of the population is minority now, so someday soon maybe the Dems will stand a chance here.

10. I'm hoping to keep Heidi Davison as Mayor of Athens-Clarke County,
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 02:56 PM by CottonBear
we will elect a new Democratic Solicitor for A-CC (only Dems qualified to run in the primary!), I hope to see Mike Thurmond, Thurbert Baker and Tommy Irvin re-elected and I hope that Jane Kidd bets the pants off of Bill Cowsert in the State Senate race in district 46. We also hope to elect several Democratic commissioners for A-CC. :) I'm hopeful that my friend John Barrow will beat Max Burns in the Congressional race in the (since redistricted) district that Burns lost to Barrow two years ago.
:) Small steps and hold what we've already got is the only strategy we can take at this point. We'll have to finish the job in Georgia in 2008.

edit: sp.

18.  .
CB, I need to get registered in ACC. I drove back to Fulton County(Sandy Springs to be exact) where my parents live and where I am still registered to vote. I knew that the people I was voting for would probably not win but I wanted to feel like I was at least having my voice heard.

With no paper trail on these damn Diabold machines (thanks Cathy...) even if we did have the votes, how do we know they're not being stolen?

21. Good for you for driving all that way to vote!
Heidi's in a runoff. I thought she'd won, but no one got more than 50% of the vote. The runoff is in four weeks. The holidays are problematic because lots of people are out of town but Heidi got way more votes than the nearest opponent so I think she'll win. *crosses fingers*

I hate the Diebold machines. I used to really respect Cathy Cox. I've met with her when lobbying for professional license issues for my profession. But now, I have lost all respect for her. She has really screwed us over. :(

:hi: I hope that school is going well fopr you! We'll all have to meet up in Atlanta soon to celebrate the Democratic takeover of the house! :toast:

Perdue's at 60%, Cagel's at 57%, Jane Kidd in my Sen. district #46 is only getting 46%...it makes me angry how wrong so many people in this state can be.

That rat bastard Linder is, of course, getting re-elected, along with scores of other rat bastard white supremacist Rethug scum.

I fear that the South will need another decade or three to cure what ails it.

16. Yes
On the one hand I get a great satisfaction out of voting. I grew up in a politically charged time and a politically aware family and couldn't wait to be able to do it. I registered when I turned eighteen and haven't missed a major election since and rarely miss the little local ones.

But ever since those stupid machines showed up, voting has been sort of painful rather than a joy. There was a time when, if your candidate lost, you could tell yourself s/he just got outvoted. After the new voting machines so obviously shoehorned Saxby Chambliss into office, I feel like I can never be sure whether my vote was correctly counted or not. Given the corruption, even if my vote was correctly counted, what about the thousands of other people's votes? It's discouraging but I refuse to stop voting or caring and working to get things cleaned up.

I voted an all dem ticket today. Martin ran a good clean campaign & made some points with voters. He will run again for something. Let's work on getting that
chicken hawk Saxby defeated. Here is a guy that got out of Vietnam by claiming a bad knee and he trashed Cleland.

24. Thing is with Linder
This only gives him street cred with the knuckle-draggers who think his "Fair Tax" is duh Shiznit.

He only planned to serve this one more term anyway. I suspect he'll do a "Fair Tax II: Electric Boogaloo" book with that fascist Neal Boortz and sell even more copies.

25. Johns Creek
Earlier this year a new city (Johns Creek) was voted into existence in North Fulton. This city is supposed to reduce taxes or at least redirect taxes to the local community. Historically, the formation of a new city has only increased taxes over time. It also appears the new mayor and city council are primarily republican and I am concerned that the focus will be on new development (strip centers and housing) rather than fixing roads, improving parks, increasing police and firemen salaries.

Does anyone have the scoop on these changes and how they will affect the community?
