Well, no gas around me in Gwinnett County |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 02:23 PM by XanaDUer
I just went on a gasoline quest. Five stations-no gas. Then I went to Publix-the closest one. I don't want to waste gas looking for gas.
Things felt tense among those in Publix, the most folks I've seen in Publix for awhile.
Store shelves looked picked over and semi-empty-no change there. I live in deep-red Gwinnett, and you can sense the fear out there. There was a line of cars behind me, all ducking in and out of gas stations looking for gas. One idiot was not kind enough to put the yellow or red covers on the pumps;you had to actually drive up and look to see a hand-scrawled sign, "NO GAS".
So, Gov. "Sonny" Perdue won't let barges come up the Chatahoochee River. I just fired off a nasty email to him about what is he going to DO about this so-called "shortage".
I also said that I hoped he would do more that just pray, as he did with the water shortage, that is still going on.
No one talks about that anymore. I am beyond fed up.

I live in DeKalb, it's hard to find gas here without wasting much time and gas trying to find somewhere that has gas. The places that are open look like traffic accidents just waiting to happen. It's just nuts.

2. No gas in Cobb or Cherokee counties either. |
|
I have just under 1/2 tank, just enough to get me home tonight, to work and home tomorrow. After that, I don't know. I'll just have to take some vacation time. Fortunately, I have 2 weeks left.

I got lucky this morning. I left the house at 5:30 a.m. to search for gas. I went to the QT on Town Lake Parkway around the corner from my house. No gas. So, I went up Highway 5 and a station named The Right Stuff was open. I saw a few cars at the pumps and I pulled right in. Didn't even have to wait in a line. The clerk told me he had just received 9,000 gallons 1:30 this morning. Well, that's not going to last too long. He'll be out this afternoon. Also on Highway 5, the Kroger gas pumps were open with only a few cars in line. And then up on Cobb Parkway, the QT and Sam's Club also had gas with short lines.

3. I had to leave a conversation at work a few minutes ago |

They were bragging about filling up all their cars, and gas cans. In other words, doing what we are being asked NOT to do! :grr:
The panicky attitude in this town is infuriating! I was behind 2 elderly women on Saturday morning at 6AM, at the QT in Alpharetta. They both needed to "top" off!!! They spent 30 minutes in line, with their cars running to get 5 gallons of gas a piece! WTH?! The QT attendants were equally annoyed.
I don't know why I am surprised, these are the same people that will invade grocery stores like hungry locusts when the weather man, even hints at a chance of a snow flake.
Times like these, I wonder why I don't take my horse, my husband, and the dog, and move to a remote farm in Wyoming!

6. Simple fact--not enough fuel in station's tanks to top off everyone |
|
According to a gas distributor I heard interviewed on NPR, there's NEVER enough gasoline for everyone to drive around with the needles pointing to "F."
So even if we were at full capacity, which we're not, yet, we'd still have shortages so long as people behave like your co-workers.
Cut them a tiny-little bit of slack, though. I think everyone's behaving a little differently than normal. For instance, I have a very well-plotted commute/refuel cycle wherein I normally get very close to "E"; I have been re-fueling when it's still 1/4-1/8 full. So I've changed my habits a bit, too. It all adds up.

I had 1/2 a tank. I only drove 8 miles and found the Kroger's gas station with gas. Two managers were out there, and everything was going in a very organized manner. One lady cut the line and he made her go to the back of the line.
I filled up. It cost $18 for almost 1/2 tank. I didn't even notice the price-think it was $3.97/gallon.

5. Overheard last week from a kid with a 5-gallon tank in his hand |

...standing behind me as I waited in my car to fuel up (only one car in front of me.)
"This is weird."
Indeed.

supposedly, more gas is in the area now at local qts (convenience-type stores w/gas stations).
i've heard that the shortage is due to the ONE pipeline being down due to hurricane-seems that the other guvs in the SE managed to sign on for help and "Sonny" never did...was was in spain last week.
also, perdue is taking a lot of flak for this, even among republicans, which this state is thick with.
so, who knows?
