Governor-elect Deal has declared war on our education system. |
|
I read in the AJC that Deal wants to further cut education spending and make cuts in the HOPE scholarship program while at the same time reducing corporate taxes by 1/3. Our state already ranks near the bottom nationwide in education, what the hell is he thinking !!!!! http://www.ajc.com/news/georgia-politics-elections/deal-warns-of-cuts-769832.html

1. I sent the following letter to the Atlanta Journal, I'd encourage others to as well |

I sent the following letter to the editor to the AJC. Any other Georgia members PLEASE sent letters to your local papers, bitch about this on local chat groups, complain to your co-workers, etc. This is war on the middle class.
Your article titled “Deal warns of cuts to K-12, need to 'salvage' HOPE” may as well have been “Deal declares war on Georgia’s school children”. Nathan Deal has laid out his top priority during his reign as governor – at least a one third cut in corporate taxes. And how does he plan to pay for that gift to corporations? With more cuts to our public school budget. Our schools are already suffering due to depleted funding, with mandatory furlough days for teachers, staff and other cuts. Our schools already rank among the worst in the nation in test scores, we can ill afford further cuts to our school system. My kids don’t even have text books they can bring home, the school can only afford one set which stays in the classroom.
High tech (and high paying) jobs require a well-educated workforce. If Deal gets his way Georgia will be taking a giant step backward from that goal. My children’s education is important to me, and I cannot begin to understand why Deal wants to give breaks to corporations while taking away from our school system.

Thanks for writing it and for posting it here. If destroying the state's public education system is Deal's #1 priority, then saving it must be ours.

2. Maybe we should get rid of schools altogether? |
|
Education doesn't seem to be high on anybody's list of priorities. If we are to stay at the bottom, what's the point?
He's thinking like a Republican, that's what.
