the polls are calling it a toss up. Traditionally, Hawaii has been a blue state.

1. Bush has been ahead by 1% by the polls, but
the New York Times describes this state as "leaning Kerry". Perhaps they know something. Either way, it is way closer than anyone ever thought possible. I have played with a number of scenarios and in many Hawaii decides who the next President is.

4. Any explanation for the closeness?
A lot of people are saying there was just one bad poll that is fooling people, but then why is Cheney going there? Why is the DNC running ads there? I imagine both parties have their own internal polls and don't just rely on the same polls we see. Are Hawaiian Dems mobilized or do you think they're somewhat complacent?

2. Dick Cheney got an earful of jeers as he pulled into the convention center
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 04:47 AM by oasis
tonight around 10:45 Hawaii time. Democrats are alive and well and giving Republicans hell.

We were about 200 strong at the protest.

Al Gore and Alexandra Kerry were well received the other night across town. About 1,200 filled the high school auditorium and surrounded a big screen nearby while another 80 or 90 waved Kerry/Edwards signs at the passing traffic outside.

There were so many motorists honking horns in approval that it was hard to keep track of. Very few looked straight ahead or reacted negatively.

5. I talked with a Kucinich primary elector last night
and I am relieved to say that the Kucinich people are supporting Kerry wholeheartedly.
You may recall Kucinich got most of his electors here...
A great protest last night! Yes there were a zillion republicans but they got a big loud earful from us across the street!
