College Dems Convention, St. Louis, 7/20-7/23 |
|
There is still time to register by the 7/19 deadline. This is the first time the convention has been held in the Midwest and it may not be so close to Illinoisans next time, so our College Students need to take advantage of this. http://convention.collegedems.com/

Congratulations on your College Democrats convention. However, for your information, there was a College democrats convention Chicago in the spring of 1974. It was held at the Radisson Hotel, and keynote speakers were Mayor Richard J. Daley and Governor Dan Walker.
The largest delegations were from the states of Illinois, Missouri, and Georgia. Daley effectively flushed the presidential hopes of Illinois' favorite son down the toilet when he referred to the state's senior senator as "Adlai the turd."
The primary topic of discussion was impeaching the current president, Richard Nixon. However, the delegation from Georgia spent all its time promoting the presidential hopes of its peanut-growing governor, Jimmy Carter.

4. I'll accept that correction. |

But, I can't take all the credit for the lack of truthiness in the announcement. The way they worded it was, "for the first time in a non-presidential year", which still doesn't make sense, unless they meant we haven't really had a president worth noting this year. And even though they must have meant to say "a non-presidential election year", '74 was a non-presidential election year. So it appears they still didn't get it right. Anyway, I'm not a College Dem, but maybe not any more on top of things than they are. I was just trying to get the word out.
And, well...'74, that's an awful long time ago, but your memories of the Chicago convention are interesting, Michael. So, I'm glad you spoke up. Still I think they're right in admitting to hanging around in DC too much. IMHO, everything is in DC too much. So, it still was a once-in-a-long-while opportunity for midwesterners.
Sorry, you missed it Nick. I wonder how that happened too.
