i don't live there, but i know some folks. it is pretty thug. there is a subculture of artists, and holdovers from the hippy days. stop by abe's spring street guest house/stone house pottery, and say hi to my pal charlie fach. he has a picture of the day that the 40 or so peaceniks had a protest. he told me that some were imported from out of town. it is a beautiful little town.

2. My brother and his wife live there. |

They have a terrific circle of very progressive friends. Lots more Dems than there used to be. He seldom posts here, but he's a DUer.

3. Thanks for the information - I'm relieved! Where do the "good guys" , i.e |
|
the progressives hang out in addition to "Abe's"?
We are thinking of starting a "Drinking Liberally" group there and just seeing who shows up.

5. Well, just anecdotal evidence on my part, but we were just out there this |
|
week and on main street there was a record shop with a nice "bush lies" bumpersticker at eye level in the window. Also when driving down I-20 to get to Galena, we were greeted by a flower shop that had probably 20 foot high gay pride flags on each end of the parking lot. So I didn't get the impression that it was a repuke hideaway exactly.

Dick Auman, is very progressive.
He is running against that stupid Manzullo, the repuke from my district. Auman does not stand much of a chance, but he is a good man.
I don't think it is all repuke if they elected him.
