oh well, we didn`t count and look what has happened now....fat boy protecting a pervert...my oh my what will the good folks of the 14th think of this..oh wait the back room boys in washington wanted denny in place just to hedge their bets.i mean he gave them tons of money for construction projects but it sure is blowing up in their faces now.
so the 14th for the first time in years could actually go democratic and it won`t. thanks rahm and the boys, that is why i`m not giving a dime. remember all politics are local.

1. Sorry, my friend....
I moved 5 months ago today...from Jan Schakowsky's district to Danny Davis'. I cannot complain. Going to register on Monday...could not do so previously because I had signed a petition on which I had to be a registered voter (in favor of pulling out of Iraq for a VVAW member :D) and so had to sign at the old address and stay registered there until about now.

I am taking a day off work to do so (village hall is open only 9 - 5 and I am at work from shortly after 8 until after 5 :eyes:) but it is something I need to do.

2. I know how you feel.
Sometimes it just sucks living in Cook County and putting up with all the BS from the powers that be.

I know that we DU'ers are supposed to vote for all the Dems come November 7th but this is one time I cannot and will not. I can't "hold my nose" this time around and vote for the DINO that represents my district, Dan Lipinski and I won't vote for Todd Stroger either. Neither one of these people deserve their jobs, they both basically inherited them from their fathers.

I won't vote for their Republican opponents either, never voted for a Puke in my life and I ain't about to start now. Lipinski will win a walk, without my vote and as for President of the Cook County Board, who cares.. Tony Peraica will only replace all the Dem patronage workers with Puke patronage workers, nothing will change.

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

I will vote for Blago and Pat Quinn though, JBT is just too annoying and as for Joe Birkett, don't even get me started.

Who knows maybe this latest wrinkle with Mark Foley will cast some sort of a shadow on "Fat Denny", but I seriously doubt it. It will be interesting to see how the Trib spins this on Sunday especially that total moron John Kass.

3. I am thinking of doing a write-in for Forrest Claypool.
Like you, I have similar feelings about Todd Stroger. Who only got to be an alderman because Daley anointed...er, appointed him to the job.

a lot of people on this board feel about Peracia? I ask because I have a friend working for the campaign.

5. No, he isn't.
And there's no reason Hastert can't be beaten in November after this.

OP is upset because they didn't get any of that sweet DCCC cash. I'm of the mind that it isn't too late; we're still over a month out from the election. Hastert can be beaten.

18. Hastert IS opposed.
Edited on Wed Oct-11-06 08:02 AM by dogfacedboy
Jon Laesch. Former Naval intelligence officer(Mideast expert). Son of missionaries. UNION carpenter. Progressive. The genuine article.
Unfortunately, the DCCC hasn't helped him much. Until now, I guess they thought Hastert couldn't be beat. If this Foley shit had come out even a month earlier, there would've been more momentum.
This district gets more Dems moving in day by day. I don't know about the immediate future, but down the road, I see daylight.

6. Not just the 14th, but the 19th too.
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 11:40 PM by kaleagal
I read that Danny Stover was almost going to meet John Laesch up there for a press conference, since he's running against Shimkus and they're in the same boat, but he decided to stay in his district. But, I just looked at the link CarbonDate posted and see they did do a press conference together in St. Charles. I'm still expecting Danny to give a press conference in Springfield early part of this week. And here's hoping they both surprise the heck out of the DCCC.

7. For that matter, don't give up on the 16th either
Dick Auman, a "Fighting Dem," is taking on sleazy Don Manzullo.

John B. Anderson is holding a reception for Dick on Oct. 13 from 6:30-8:30 PM at Sam's Ristorante. I assume this is at the Riverside location. http://www.samsristorante.com/

8. I'm a little worried about
that third candidate, the independent, who is running in the 16th also.

Auman is a good progressive, though. I like him.

10. Has Auman
conceded the eastern part of the district to Manzullo? I live in Harvard (just inside the 16th's boundary in McHenry County) and haven't seen or heard hind nor hair of his campaign. Meanwhile, Manzullo has shown up at the local/county festivals.

Don't get me wrong...I'm still voting for Auman. The idea that he may have given up on my town, however conservative it may be, is a little disappointing though.

17. He's done some campaigning in McHenry County
but probably should do much more. It was McHenry County votes which turned the district red when it was redistricted.

Check with the local Dem organization to see what you might do to help win this race: http://www.mchenrydems.com/Pages/Elections/Federal/RichardAuman.htm

12. This Wasn't Supposed To Be...LOL
IIRC, last year Hastert set up a command center in Oakbrook that was supposed to wage political war in the 6th and 8th districts. Both candidates were his hand-picked lackeys that have run inept campaigns and now trail Bean and Duckworth on the latest polls (and that's before DeFoliage began). The Democrats were looking to hang on for dear life in the 8th and hope to steal the 6th. The 14th was never on the radar, just as Hastert didn't put up any candidates to go after the Chicago Dems.

I'm very familiar with the district and saw it as a future pick-up...as the large Hispanic populations in Kane country have changed the dynamics of the district. Also there's a lot of liberatarians and ultra conservatives in the area who tolerate Hastert but would prefer an even more right wing candidate. Fortunately these people are destroying the state party and led to a bloody primary fight in the 8th that has hurt McSweeny.

I just saw John on Hardball and you could see the adreneline quirting out of his ears. I can't blame him...from barely being able to get time on local cable access all of a sudden he's on a major network television show. He's not quite a polished performer, but neither was Flannery...the Repugnican who snuck into Congress for one term in the 5th District after Rostenkowski was indicted. I see a lot of similarities here.

Peace...

15. I find your comparison to John Laesch and Flannery very compelling.
I've been without electricity since Monday night. Terrible thunderstorms here in the southwest burbs, but ComEd finally got our power back on tonight just in time to watch Countdown on MSNBC.

I saw the clip that Keith showed tonight of "Fat" Denny's performance in the press conference he held earlier today in front of his office in Batavia and I just shook my head.

Talk about a total disconnect. While myself and all my neighbors have been totally engrossed in trying to get our power back on, some of them had generators and were able to give us (the ones without generators) what's been happening outside our world.

All day Wednesday and Thursday, the second most popular topic of conversation was the role Denny Hastert had in this brouhaha. Mind you, one of my neighbors works for our congresscritter (Dan Lipinski, D, 3rd IL) and tried to tell everyone that this is "no big deal", but he was put in his place by one of the neighbors who said "Excuse me, *****, but if one of your children received one of these e-mails, wouldn't you be upset?"

Needless to say ***** slunked away, all the while saying, "if your power isn't back on by such and such time give me a call." At this point, all of us, about 20 people, literally laughed out loud at him. ***** is a legend in his own mind and believe me, ComEd didn't give a shit about what he had or we had to say. What I found so surprising that this man who works for a Democratic congressman, said this scandal was no big deal...But then again, I realized that Regular Democrats and the Pukes in Cook County, have been in cahoots for years.

It'll be very interesting to see what happens in the coming days. I don't know if "Fat" Denny will resign as Speaker, but from what I watched on Countdown and the 15 minutes of Scarborough that I was able to stomach, I think the pressure's on, big time...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Karl Rove doesn't give Hastert a call tomorrow and tell him to give it up. Not his congressional seat, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Speaker goes the way of Newt Gringich and the rest of the low lifes.

Talk about grasping at straws, blaming this on ABC, the Democratic Party and George Soros. And add to the fact that one of his own, his chief of staff, tendered his resignation today even though Denny didn't accept it, something smells big time....

There's defintely something there...

14. Aren't they expecting him to resign the Speakership?
I didn't think they were expecting him to resign from Congress. I may be wrong but that's how I read it....

In fact, I think that's what Hastert will do - resign as Speaker to try to take some of the heat off then fight like hell for his seat in Congress.
