DuQuoin State Fair

Hi. I live in Missouri, but was trying to find a state fair to go to to watch harness racing, and stumbled upon the DuQuoin State Fair - which actually is closer than the Missouri state fair.

Anyway, it turns out the one weekend day that has the harness racing, Sept. 1, also is called Democrat day. I was curious to know if anyone here knew what that was?

Also, any good food at that fair?

I went to the one in Springfield and was disappointed with it compared to the MO state fair, but I've never seen a harness race and have always wanted to and this year the IL times work better for both Springfield and DuQuoin.
