2. lots of local speculation about jan schakowsky, but
i don't think that has any connection to reality. i agree that the rumor is duckworth. if he had any smarts, he would appoint lisa madigan. i know i would.

5. me too, but she would be a great senator.
most of this speculation (of which i speak, anyway) is coming from nuts in my neighborhood who are almost completely unaware that there is more to the state of illinois than the north side of chicago.

To remove her from running in the primary in 2010.

6. She probably wouldn't take it.
To avoid being tied to him. She's going for Gov, I'm sure.

I'll go for Duckworth as well. I can't think of anyone (off the top of my head) more deserving at the moment.

34. I like Lisa for Gov
Although she would make a great Senator and could probably hold the seat.
Blago has to go.

7. Hopefully it'll be someone who's won an election for something sometime.
They'll have to run in 2010 and it would be great if they some kind of organization in place.

8. I kinda wondered about Hynes.
He's floating the idea of running in the next Primary for Governor and he's already sounding kinda like he's stumping for it. I could see Blago wanting to get him out of state government for that reason alone.

I have also heard a rumor floating some of clan Daley for Obama's seat. I have ZERO idea if that has any bearing in reality but I did hear the rumor.

14. can't stand pat, myself.
i think he is a blowhard, with no real accomplishments. happy to be corrected on that, but that is my impression. doing away with the old system of 3 member districts put illinois government on the path to ruin. i miss the old days. we had fun people.

13. I heard Jesse Jr. has already contacted him about it
He may be one of the few politicans that is still vaguely on speaking terms with Blago these days.

He's won his own elections and has been a popular voice across party lines for several years now.

19. Jesse Jr would be great.
(If he did get it, and Jesse Sr. got choked up at the swearing in, would the ofay press say it was just because HE didn't get it?)

35. he would be, but can he get downstate votes?
Downstate voters are already resentful of Chicago candidates. I doubt that JJJ could hold the seat.
The Repugs are already planning to tie the new appointee to Blago, whoever it is.
We need a candidate that can weather the beating.

I have heard that Obama wanted to replace it with a person of color...cannot remember whom, though.

23. He's "too Chicago."
But Blago is so shortsighted, he might not see that.

Jackson would have to be re-elected, and it could be tough to get downstate to vote for him. His name is a drawback in some places.

We can't lose the seat to a republican.

I like Dan Hynes. I like Giannoulias, too, but he might want to be governor someday. I think he is only 32.

i think maybe jr.
i did not hear any rumor about who it was, just saying that i don't think sr would be interested, and i don't think barack is very fond of him.
jr, on the other hand, has earned it.

wonder if she would take it. she was a little burnt out the last i talked to her. and wasn't a big barack fan as late as the WI primary.

but then, i would get over it pretty fast myself, if i were asked.

in her second run, when everyone turned their backs on her, the only one that called her and told her to her face was barack. a tidbit that helped me like him.
but, yeah, i would be pretty cranky.

30. Well, he gets a point or two for at least being upfront about it.
We had a similar situation here in Alaska, where an Alaska Native candidate, Diane Benson, got 41% against Don Young two years ago with no money and no party backing and then this time, the party(including Rahm)drove her out and forcibly replaced her with their notion of a "real" candidate, Ethan Berkowitz. Ethan blew a big lead and Don survived. Nice work, party "pros".

31. rahm is no longer chair of the dccc.
doesn't mean he didn't have anything to do with it, just to say that this cycle is was chris vanhollen's job.
i gave diane some money in '06. i feel your pain, but maybe you folks could try actually counting the votes up there. just sayin'.

(fyi, Rahm, back in '06, ORDERED our state party not to help Diane. And this year's candidate was his guy, down the line.)

33. yeah, that's what happened here.
when the dccc picks somebody, you better get in line. party discipline has it's uses. my biggest beef is that the resources that the grassroots bring to the table are not a part of the equation.

Depending on the timing...maybe Blagojevich won't be the one naming Obama's replacement...
