Poll question: Would you vote for Burris in the Democratic Primary?
I don't think Roland Burris has announced whether he'll run for election to the Senate seat. I'm curious what people think so chime in with a comment.

I don't think taking the appointment from Blagojevich was the right thing to do, but it merely proves he has a lot of ambition and ego like any politician.

1. The real question is who beside Burris runs
I think it's likely Lisa will. While I don't have a lot of gripe with how she has done here job, it still frosts my ass what Mike Madigan has done to this state.

3. i think lisa wants hot rod's job.
i think that is a lot of what this whole mess is about. i think that the 4 tops have been fucking with rod since day one, just so they can say- see what a mess rod made.
and wouldn't that make a cute daddy daughter partnership?

2. I just don't see it.
If he does decide to run, whoever runs against him in the primary is going to run 24/7 Burris=Blagojevich ads (whether it has any merit or not, it's smart), and it will work.

If Lisa runs, she gets my vote. I still think it is very, very likely we lose the seat.

4. I don't see how
the daughter of Illinois' top Democratic party boss runs on a good-government platform. People see Mike Madigan as part of the corrupt system and may not want one family having that much power. I think she's more likely to run for Governor anyway.

Alexi Giannoulias and Jan Schakowski are more likely to run against him.

5. Wasn't there information out recently that he too was corrupt?
Giving out contracts or something to friends/family? I'll have to look it up. But honestly, if a solid dem goes up against him - I'm voting for the other guy. I don't like how all this went down.

6. With as deep a bench as we have in Illinois...
...I have to think that there will almost certainly be someone running whom I would support over Burris. Keep in mind that he's had a string of primary losses over the last decade or more.

In fact, if too many people run, I could have some divided loyalties. My family and I have supported both Alexi Giannoulias and Lisa Madigan in the past, and I still think both are fine public servants. I have personally been active for Dan Hynes in previous races. And I've known, liked, and respected Jan Schakowsky since I first worked for Illinois Public Action in the mid-seventies and again in the mid-eighties.

I look for the major players to sort themselves out to some extent in order to avoid major public showdowns. All of these people already have relatively safe seats that would be have to be given up in order to grab for the brass ring. There may be some shuffling around, but I strongly suspect that we won't see any knockdown dragouts between our already elected constitutional officers.

Make no mistake, though: there will almost certainly be major primary challenges to both Quinn and Burris, and there may also be signficant campaigns mounted by people not currently holding statewide office. It looks to be a lively primary season...

7. No way....
The other primary candidates would have to be *extraordinarily* bad for me to vote for Burris.

He should *never* have accepted that appointment. That alone makes me question his judgment.
