Judy O'Bannon will be IU-Bloomington's commencement speaker
I was noticing a post that Cheney will be FSU's (Florida State) speaker. :(

I am relieved that IU didn't go with anyone from the Bush* administration. My son is graduating. I was afraid I would end up being arrested for practicing free speech. :)

I've enjoyed hearing Judy O'Bannon speak in the past.

2. Mrs. O'Bannon is a classy lady
far better choice for a commencement speaker than a speaker related to the administration that seems to be working pretty hard to make sure that there are fewer and fewer paying career options for the graduates who will be addressed.

Didn't Mellencamp speak at a graduation within the last few years?

4. Would be even more interesting today
caught the dvd he made (used to help the local pbs station) during the time from of making he "To Washington" (not sure if that is the correct title) protest song. While he was probably interesting a couple of years ago.... I think he just might be down right controversial (and in a way that would probably resonate with me) these days.

5. Three years ago
the woman who wrote Dead Man Walking spoke at the commencement for St. Mary-of-the-Woods college around here, an all-woman Catholic-run college. If only my school would get someone like that, but, no, we'll probably end up with some jackass CEO of a technology company getting an honorary degree and speaking about how important it is to blah blah i don't give a shit.

And I'm getting a master's, I go up on stage last. Loooooong day....
