Daniels leads Kernan in latest poll
How did this bozo overcome a 15-point deficit that he had a couple of months ago?

Daniels leads Kernan in latest poll

Kevin Rader/Eyewitness News and The Indianapolis Star

Indianapolis, May 20th -- Call it riding the wave of a competitive primary...call it consolidating your base. You can look at any number of reasons but from now on you can call Indiana's gubernatorial campaign a real race. According to the latest Indianapolis Star-WTHR poll Governor Joe Kernan has 40% of Hoosiers polled. Republican challenger Mitch Daniels has 46%. Contrast that with the numbers just last January when Kernan held a thirteen point edge. Daniel's campaign manager Bill Oesterle is pleased with the poll numbers "we are very pleased. Most of all we had a very good primary against a good opponent. That is the thing we are most pleased about. "Oesterle says the more voters hear Daniels message the more they like him. Kernan's campaign manager Bernie Toon also likes what he sees in the poll numbers. "In this particular poll we are ahead with independents. I think that is a good sign and the governors approval ratings are a very good sign for us. We are very encouraged by them." Fifty five percent of those polled approve of the way Governor Kernan is doing his job. Twenty six percent disapprove.

1. How Daniels overcame
He overcame that deficit because of the coverage of the Republican primary - it was all Daniels, all the time, Bush came down to stroke his dick a few times, and now more people have heard of him, and those who support Bush but were leaning Kernan probably went over to Daniels.

Whatever - they're both basically the same candidate, anyway.

2. Maybe on the issues, but
Kernan never turned record national surplus to a record national deficit. That is one of Bitch Daniel's true accomplishments as Bush's budget director.

3. simple...it's all in the campaign rhetoric
Daniels is focusing on meeting common people and "feeling their pain" like Clinton did. Then he gives a "we can all work together to make it better pep talk" to seal the deal.

Kernan is running ads about being a vietnam vet and saying that things are already getting better (which may be true for Indy but certainly don't wash with rural areas battling what resembles a depression).

It has been Kernan's race to lose all along and from the looks of his campaign so far, he's going to.

4. Not getting such a great vibe for him.
Just before the primaries I drove from Bloomington to Greencastle to Indy. I saw many Daniels signs - but not much else. Of course Mitch had a little bit of a challenge which could account for the higher visibility. However, while I don't see many Daniels signs in town - I do see quite a few between B-ton and around Indianapolis. Don't see much of anything for Kernan.

6. I think the overhaul
of the property tax system has angered a lot of people, especially up here in the northern part of the state. The way in which industry was re-assessed resulted in their share of property tax falling from 40% to 18%.

Private homeowners are expected to pick up the difference, and it is a HUGE one. And this is on top on higher assessed values. I haven't gotten my new tax bill yet, but my estimates show it will quadruple. It's going to suck, but I'll be OK. Many people will be forced to sell or lose their homes because of the property taxes.

Because of the strength of the unions, this is a very Democratic area but Daniels is gaining support because of this mess. He and the GOP have been quite visible at tax protest meetings while Kernan is offering few solutions.
