Race for the 9th

Gretchen Clearwater has officially filed her candidacy for the 9th District Democratic congressional nomination.

She'll oppose former district representative Baron Hill, who lost to incumbent Republican Rep. Mike Sodrel in 2004 and is seeking to reclaim the seat.
_________

"We were lied to about this war and the reasons for fighting it," she charged. "Too many Americans have died. Too many Iraqi civilians have died. We need to support our troops by bringing them home."

She also said the nation should redirect its resources from rebuilding Baghdad to rebuilding New Orleans, and from tax breaks for millionaires to health-care coverage for the working poor who can't afford it. "Mike Sodrel and his friends in the Bush administration have some misplaced priorities," she said.

1. Not a bad idea
I've got nothing against Barron Hill. He's not in my district, but I've met him and like him. But we need as much new blood as we can in the Congress, no more go along to get along types.

2. Baron Hill is not a friend of LGBTs and is a neoliberal globalist
Despite that, his GOP opponent in 2004 is an avowed religious extremist.

There aren't any Republicans in Indiana that deserve to breathe air.

4. Decisions, decisions
I'm in the 9th and will gladly welcome either Dem candidate to replace Sodrel, the Bush puppet. Hill is an overall good guy. As I get older, I become more cynical about politicians, but I was proud to have Hill as a rep and would be happy to see him take that seat back. However, Clearwater also sounds like a good choice....
