BorgWarner announces Muncie plant to close
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 02:55 PM by hippiechick
I especially like the quote from Little Bonaparte that I've bolded. Wonder if he's ever heard of Chrysler or American Airlines? :shrug:

Muncie - A plant closing will leave nearly 800 people out of work. The BorgWarner plant in Muncie is shutting down in April 2009.

It certainly was not the news that employees, city officials or residents wanted to hear. BorgWarner says it's shutting down its plant in Muncie. Employees got the word first thing Thursday morning when a plant executive made the announcement on plant floor at 8:00 am. He said the plant would be shutting down, apparently no later than April 2009 when the UAW contract expires. Some 780 jobs will be lost.

<snip>

"Sadness of course. We've seen it coming. Just a reminder you have to work very hard. The government cannot save a business that's losing money or failing. The good news is Indiana - unique among the states - is going to be adding a lot of automotive jobs. Honda and Toyota and Rolls Royce and Cummins to mention just the four, and so there's still going to be lot of cars made in this country and it's clear that a lot of parts for them are going to be made Indiana," said Governor Mitch Daniels.

The plant will close no later than April 2009, implying a gradual reduction in the work force.

1. Is he implying that
those who will be losing their jobs are doing so because they didn't work hard?

Does he believe that the added jobs will pay what the lost jobs do? With the same benefits? I don't believe they will.

This isn't all. It seems that every day in Indiana there are notices of plant closings. Not good.

3. This Governor talked about keeping jobs in Indiana when he was
touring the state in that Motor Home but he has outsorced many state jobs,leased the toll road and now wants to outsorce the lottery,he has outsorced the unemployment claims division. What will he do next to cause the loos of jobs? He thinks that the new Honda plant makes up for the jobs lost at Borg-Warner.Is it 2008 yet?

2. borg warner..
just another crappy cut throat business...screw the locals out of their money and close the plant...

"2000- Borg Warner, then with nearly 1,300 employees, receives $3.3 million in tax abatement on a $52 million equipment investment. Company officials pledge to create 250 news jobs in return".

"September 2006 -- Muncie City Council votes 6-3 to strip Borg Warner Automotive of about $150,000 in property tax abatement, citing a failure to create the promised jobs."
