I received a letter in the mail stating that we were holding our e-board elections at our next meeting (which would be March-26 if I am not mistaken)..
Does anyone know if anyone is challenging any of our current members? I didn't open the letter until AFTER the convention of course, so I didn't think to ask anyone about it.
Oh, and I am a delegate to the district/state conventions.. so I'll see y'all there maybe?

The good news is that we have people running for every office. Keep in mind that these are only the people who have announced... more could be nominated at the meeting before the election.
Candidates:
Chair -- Diane Hoffmann (currently 1st Vice Chair)
1st Vice Chair -- Brett Nilles (fairly new but active person, joined at the 2006 caucus) Joe Michalec (veteran, platform, has been active for some time)
2nd Vice Chair -- Norm Sterzenbach (currently holds this seat)
Financial Secretary -- Kay Hale (currently holds seat)
Secretary -- Joe Stutler (active, veteran, platform)
Treasurer -- DJ Arnold (currently holds seat)
Initially, Mike Robinson indicated he would seek re-election as chair. He has since opted to run against Kraig Paulsen for state house and will not be seeking another term as chair.
At the March meeting, we will also be voting on a change to the county constitution. Basically, to switch election of county officers to the off year. If the change passes, those elected will serve only one year before standing for re-election. (After that, we'll be back to a two-year time frame.)
Since I'm the one who put forth the proposed change, I'll give you my reasoning. After the presidential caucuses, we have new people elected to the county central committee. First, we ask all those new people just to hold tight for a couple of months until we get our new executive board in place. Second, we ask the new people to vote on executive members before they really have a chance to know who is who. Third, at a time when we should be high-energy, we tend to slip into a lull while all of the changes and so-forth are sorted out.
Switching to off years is something that's been successful in other counties and I think it would serve Linn better than our current system.

Diane will be great as Chair, she really held her own at the county convention. I heard a lot of positive feedback about her in the audience... very no-nonsense on Saturday!
I agree whole-heartedly with the change of our election of officers.. I don't really understand why it was set up this way in the first place, or how anyone would object to this. We are 8 months out from a Presidential election at this point - I honestly don't think this is the best time to change leadership. I understand that we must do so this year, but I think going forward voting in off years will work best.
I am speculating, but I don't foresee any resistance to this.. but just so ya know, I'll be there and voting!

Acckk:
On edit - we're First District - so I won't be seeing any of you until June
Unless we can plan another get together...it only took us 18 months to get the last one off the ground!

7. Hehe - I think I'm free! |

I feel like such a floosy - we're Obama alternates now (so I think I have officially supported every candidate in the race at one point or another - even Lee Mercer, Jr. - who knows what will happen if we get seated at District/State conventions!)
