I just filled up the tank at $2.99 a gallon. |
|
Apparently it dipped to 2.89 briefly. http://www.ketv.com/news/17622431/detail.htmlThe owner of a Pump and Munch station near 25th Street and Avenue M lowered prices below the $3 mark Friday morning. He quickly ignited a fuel-price feud with another nearby station, Andrew's Lounge.
"I created havoc down here," said Pump and Munch owner Lyle Sinnott. "I was at home last night and decided I was going to be the first one in town below $3 a gallon."
Sinnott said he hoped his move would get people in the door because business has been slow.
Andrew's Lounge owner Kayla Gundy quickly followed suit.
"He came down, and I lowered it to $2.89," she said.
"I got ornery, and I matched it again at $2.89," Sinnott said.

2. Who ever thought we'd cheer $3 a gallon for gas? |
|
With the bailout, I expect the value of the dollar will dip dramatically and the cost of gas to go back up.

I saw some at $3.35 the other day, but so far, nothing lower than that. But at least it sounds some old fashioned gas wars going on. Kinda refreshing, although still expensive.

5. The Oil companies know that Obama is going to win |
|
I really believe that. I've been watching the price of oil come down now for the last 3 months, and the price of gas with it. Along with that, the dollar had been rising in value, and other key indicators were changing, showing a firming economy with REAL growth potential. They (meaning the Wall Street traders who understand what's REALLY going on) have been working under the assumption that McCain didn't stand a chance, and they're hedging their bets, trying to avoid windfall profits taxes, and other new taxes on corporations making obscene profits.
Of course, these are only the wanderings of my mind...

6. I keep telling my husband gas prices seem to be tied |
|
to how McCain's doing in the polls - the lower he goes, the lower the price at the pump. Wonder if there's somewhere I could look up if the price went up just after the Rethug convention?
But seriously, are you, are people you know cutting down on gas consumption at all? My sons say I'm really mean for making them walk home 1.5 miles from junior high, and I've been working hard at not running to the store for just one thing. Other than that, we haven't been able to cut down driving much.

7. I've was pretty frugal prior to this but I have been making a lot fewer indulgent trips |
|
And try to run multiple errands at once.
I have noticed a few more walkers and bikers lately too.

8. Same thing happened in 2006 too |
|
I seem to recall that gas prices dropped quite a bit in the weeks leading up to the 2006 elections - I thought it was an attempt to bribe the American people into voting Republican.
