McCain & Palin in Iowa this weekend
Mac72 & Paleocuda in Sioux City & Des Moines:
http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Calendar/ -- clear at the bottom.

Apparently they still thin Iowa is in play. This should give us all incentive to fight a little more, make a few more calls, knock a few more doors.
And it is also time they are not in Indiana or NC or ??

If you can make them feel welcome:

1. 1-I gotta work
2- Even if I didn't, I'd prefer not to waste gas and time on those two.

2. Debi - McCain coming to UNI
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 09:43 AM by rurallib
Later on Saturday, McCain and Palin will hold a rally in HyVee Hall in Des Moines. Then on Sunday, McCain will hold a rally at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

This will be McCain’s fourth visit to the state since mid-September and follows a report from CNN that his campaign is preparing to concede the state to Democrat Barack Obama. Recent polls have shown Obama with a nine to 16 point advantage in Iowa, but McCain’s campaign says their internal polls have the race much closer.

no time listed as yet for UNI
edit to add - will we need to help collect bail money for Debi jr.?

4. We are scheduled to be volunteering at Obama/ Biden headquarters
DARN...we'll be missing Maverick and Mini-Mav x(

However this is an excellent time to remind all Iowa DUers that McCain thinks he can still pull out of Iowa with a win. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. Get out there and help the Obama/Biden (and all down-ticket Dems) Ticket!!

Knock doors
Make phone calls
Pick up ballots or drive people to early voting sites
Bake cookies or bring food/drinks to volunteer centers
ANYTHING!!!

Don't let those bastards take Iowa!!! :bounce:

I'll give you all a heads up if Debi, jr. skips out on us and ends up at the UNI-Police center!! It could happen.

15. Obama's internals
show that Iowa is pretty close. I just hope that it's not that way in other states. I'm geting really scared.

I wouldn't say that in any other forum, but since it's just us, I'll confess. lol

3.  What the ??? Is anyone running that campaign?
Maybe they think an energized Steve King crowd will overwhelm Iowa's elitist, gay, commie, vegetarian, tree huggin, libruls on Nov 4th. :eyes:

I know Iowans are important and all ;) but I'd think their resources would be better spent in larger, closer states rather than ours. But hey, if they want to waste money here, go ahead!

5. First Read had a bit on it...
It's because of the large amount of seniors we have in the state (Iowa and PA are being targeted). IDK - maybe the Ayers stuff scares older people or maybe the 'Obama is going to raise your taxes' will work with the senior crowd.

Here's a link to Taegan Goddard's Political Wire which has a link to First Read:

http://politicalwire.com/archives/2008/10/22/why_mccain_still_fights_in_iowa_pennsylvania.html

Why McCain Still Fights in Iowa, Pennsylvania
First Read: "So many pundits and analysts are wondering why McCain is continuing to push for Iowa and Pennsylvania, despite the daunting poll numbers in those two states. There are two reasons. First, he's run out of options. If you assume Colorado is gone and that Virginia is teetering, he has to find 270 EVs somewhere. Second, Iowa and Pennsylvania are two of the oldest states in the union, as far as the age of their populations. Both states have tons of seniors, and if McCain can turn things around again with seniors, he should see movement first in these two states. Simply put, the campaign doesn't have a lot of options; it's not worth attempting to hold states that get McCain to 250 or 260 electoral votes. The game is getting to 270, and Iowa and Pennsylvania may be his last hope at keeping a path to 270 alive."

7. And the Dow went down another 500+ points Wednesday!
Good luck selling Bush-McCainomics to older folks with waning investments.

12. Really. First, they go to Steve King Country, which they'll almost certainly take...
then they go to Des Moines, which they won't. Who's running this campaign?

6. A weekend rally at a high school gymnasium?
I guess they aren't expecting an Obama-sized crowd.

10. That's what I thought
In Sioux City, the biggest city in IA-5, they only got West High's gym? If I remember right, Obama was at either the convention center or the Tyson Events Center and packed in JANUARY. This is pathetic, but it makes me happy. :)

11. I've thought about going, just to see them, but...
I have more important things to do: I need to make sure the paint on the house dries properly.
