I hate to interrupt the sports news here but what good books
are my fine Iowa DU folk now reading? I am reading Gore Vidal's essays (The United States) and The Foundations of the Nineteenth Century by Houston Stewart Chamberlain.

2. That one sounds very interesting... and useful in case he is
brought to trial. We'll bring up as many accusations as we have shoes!

3. Just checked out a novel from the library
David Baldacci's "The Whole Truth". I really like his novels and I think this is the only one I haven't read yet. Sorry to disappoint you with "mindless" stuff, but it is entertaining to me and that's what I care about. And not only that, I think I'll go see the movie, "Cadillac Records" tomorrow. Ac supposed history of Chess Records.

4. Currently in the middle of three books
For politics, I'm ready Joe Biden's autobiography, Promises to Keep. I'm enjoying it so far, being about 60% done. I knew a fair amount about his history from gleanings on DU and the Internet in general, but it is cool to get this knowledge from him.

I'm also reading two science books. One was a gift from a physics major friend of mine about particle physics, string theory, etc. It's pretty thorough, but I can understand most of what's going on.

The other was a book I bought myself as a "treat," Richard Dawkins' The Selfish Gene. It's a terrible book; the actually writing isn't too bad, but the biology is all wrong. I'm just a biochemistry undergraduate major, but I think I know more about genetics and biochemistry than this author. I am having fun poking holes in all his arguments, though...

Back to studying for finals...

8. I should have had Biden's book since I went to see him during the
campaign season. I could have had him sign it.

5. Well, for light reading, The Ionian Mission.
Its the 8th book of the Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian. (Yes, I've read the previous 7 already, and have the other 13 (also all previously read) in my bookcase!!)

In the area of politics, I found my copy of The Federalist Papers and have been going over some of those, and just started reading Doris Kearns Goodwin's book "Team of Rivals".

In the area of personal enlightenment, I just finished Robert A. Johnson's book "He" and just started reading "She", and after that is finished, then comes "We".

10. The Last Command
I went and checked out The Last Command by Timothy Zahn. It's an old Star Wars novel from I think about 17 years ago, but it's still as enjoyable today as it was when I first read it many years ago.

11. I have some of the Star Wars photo novels (based on the
original series) around here somewhere. In one of them they have different looking uniforms.
