Branstad again? Are you kidding me? |
|
Twelve years later he returns for, what, his fifth term?
I was checking 538.com and could not believe it. Given the fact that incumbents seem to be impossible to defeat, maybe we should just do away with the farce of democracy. The voters seem to prefer lifetime appointments.
Just when you thought it was safe, Governor-for-life Terry Branstad returns from the political graveyard. Kind of amazing though. After 12 years, some of his former supporters must have passed away and he would have to re-establish his name recoginition, especially for younger voters. Maybe not though. Maybe 8-12 year olds who are now in their 20s are nostalgic for the Governor of their childhood.

1. Again? That's what my wife has been yelling for months too. |

Drives us nuts to think that people want to go back to that crap. They seem to have selective and/or short memories. Apparently he was the best thing ever. :grr: :banghead:

3. Well he does have the advantage |
|
that he was Governor during the mostly-prosperous 1990s. Of course, I moved to Iowa in July 1998 and bought a business, worked a few temp jobs for three years before I finally had to move to Missouri in order to get a job with benefits. So the prosperity mostly passed ne by, although the 90 cent a gallon gas prices were nice.

4. He's basically taking advantage of Clinton-era nostalgia. |
|
And lying about Chet Culver's excellent management of the state.
