Does any other Kansas DUers believe a Brownback protest is in order?
This was posted by atommom in GD: Politics--

Rove counting heads (& twisting arms) on the Senate Judiciary Committee

Since Sen. Brownback is on that committee, does anyone else think a demonstration is in order? Say, a few of us meeting outside his Overland Park office protesting the influence Karl Rove is having into a Senate investigation? One DUer noted that this could be illegal given that this is an investigation after all.

Sen. Sam Brownback office in Overland Park:

11111 W. 95th St, Suite 245
Overland Park
913/492-6378

Other Kansas offices for Kansas DUers across the state who might also be interested in reminding Brownback that his duty is to the Constitution and not to Karl:

Garden City Office
811 N. Main St., Suite A
620/275-1124

Pittsburg Office
1001-C N. Broadway
620/231-6040

Topeka Office
612 S Kansas Ave.
785/233-2503

Wichita Office
245 N. Waco, Suite 240
316/264-8066

I suppose some of the details we would need to address might be:
1) Do we have enough time? How long is the Senate hearing expected to last?
2) How soon could we put this all together?
3) What day and time would be best for this and how long should we meet?

I am concerned that that smarmy, sleazy rat-bastard Karl is attempting to influence the investigation by threatening/blackmailing GOP members of the committee, and with Brownback contemplating a White House run in ’08, he just might give in to Karl’s demands in order to stay on good terms with the Kansas GOP.

1. That is a great idea, and his OP office is not far from me.
I've seen several articles that say he has "concerns" about the wiretapping, but he has not come down strongly against it. I suspect he'll swing with the rest of the Repubs if we don't push really hard. Anyone interested???

5. Do you know what kind of a setting it is in?

I mean, is it in a strip mall? A larger shopping mall? An office building?

Would a dozen or so demonstrators be visible on the sidewalk? Visible to his staff and/or passing cars? I assume we would have to stay on public property.

edited for word order

2. I could make it to the OP office
since I'm in NE Kansas.

P.S. I've got company right now. Post-basketball crowd. It is starting to clear out but I still need to walk the dogs, etc. I will try to answer your specific questions as soon as I can - probably sometime tomorrow.

6. I was wondering about this weekend...
Perhaps Sunday? Maybe early afternoon? Late morning?

Any suggestions for date and time?

In order to plan better?

I believe this scandal will last for another week...

Until then, we might try calling Sen. Brownback and register our feelings!

on edit: waiting a week might allow us to talk with concerned citizens who are not DUers.

12. I can post this idea on the GKCDFA website
and I have an anti-war email group I correspond with. I'll see if we can drum up any interest out there in KS cyber space.

13. Thanks!
A good showing of demonstrators there at 95th and Nieman should send a strong signal to the Senator and his supporters...

11. Sundays at 4:00 is the weekly anti war rally on the Plaza
Is his office near any churches? Sunday morning might be good.

Where is this? 95th and what? Is it a high profile area? We should capitalize on getting the most attention we can at the best time.

7. Here are some poster ideas!
Not all original :)

"It's the Constitution, Stupid!"

"It's the Fourth Amendment, Stupid!"

"George W. Bush: a post-20th century president with a pre-1776 mindset!"

"What part of 'No Domestic Spying without a Court Warrant' do you not understand?"

"No FISA?
Nice trysa!"

"George W. Bush broke the law. Arrest him!"

"It's the 'Rule of Law'
not the 'Law of Rove!'"

"So, Senator, what is Rove giving you this Valentine's Day?"

And my personal favorite:
"They impeach lying presidents, don't they?"

8. Well well, it's at 95th and Nieman, near Oak Park Mall.
It's nestled at the NE corner of the mall "cluster." Not as close to the mall as I'd like, but near a busy part of 95th St.

I don't know for sure whether I will able to attend a protest ... I thought I was getting over this respiratory infection, but now I have no voice and a raging fever. Keep us posted on what's going on, and I will come if I can!
