Kobach admits voter caging!!!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=2535655&mesg_id=2535655

PLEASE at list go to this thread and K&R. I have been on the phone and am making calls but it seems like everyone is on vacation.

Sheila, I know you know who to call. Everyone else, please do what you can. We should be emailing and calling our party and state newspapers. Post this on Kos and every other website you belong to.

Voter caging is illegal!!! I know I am certainly not surprised but it is stunning that KKKris is actually admitting it.

Let this be the dirty deed that does this bastard in.

PM me if you need more info.

1. It's not entirely clear to me
that voter caging is illegal. Immoral and unethical, yes. But actually against the law? It doesn't seem as if it is.

The only people I would know to call would be more of the same preaching to the choir. Is the Star covering this? Since I no longer read it, I tend to be quite unaware of what stories get published and what ones don't.

And if Kathleen appoints Chris Biggs, he will probably win re-election.

The more fundamental problem is that the Kansas Democratic Party does very little to develop potential candidates, which is why there is no one apparently to run for the Senate next year. No one who could conceivably be a logical successor to Dennis Moore when he eventually retires. Or ran for the Senate. Who will run for Governor when Kathleen can't in '12?

2. I talked to someone at the KDP in Topeka
He encouraged us to blog and contact the media.

It depends on how voter caging is used. If they are using it to reduce the voter rolls, it is illegal. That's what the Republicans did in Florida in 2000 and in 2004. Ohio too. So we might have to wait until November to know what their intent was.

Republicans sometimes claim they are merely identifying Republican voters. But that is a silly argument in Kansas since voters declare party affiliation when they register and that is public information. So there is no need to send out registered letters to identify Republicans.

Here are some more articles I found about this topic:
