A Democrat needs help in LA01.
Hello fellow Democrats. My name is Daniel Zimmerman. I am a member of the JPDEC, the moderator of the yahoo group for Jefferson Parish Democrats and I am now the campaign manager of David Gereighty ( http://www.gereighty.com ) in the District 1 Congressional race.

I am writing today because I think we need a change of plans in how we deal with District one. I understand that holding on to LA02 and LA03 is very important. However, there are two things that we need to consider with the current race in LA01.

A) We need to think in the long term. If we are an active voice in all elections, we can work to gain ground in each district. We can go inch by inch if we have to. LA01 is considered safe for Republicans and there is no reason for that to be the case. We may not win this time (though I certainly hope we do) but we can gain ground.

B) It is obvious that Bobby Jindal wants to be governor and will most likely be running for that seat in 2007. If we can bump Jindal down in the polls enough, it will hurt his chances in winning the governors race.

By supporting Democrats this year we can both work on gaining ground and working to prevent Bobby Jindal from running our state.

I want to work with parish party officials, unions, groups, and individuals who want to help David promote the ideals of our party and to help him win over some of the support that already exists for Jindal. Many people who have listened to his ideas so far are intrigued by what he has to say. And many Republicans are annoyed at Jindal for selling a bill of goods to the citizens of LA01 and then selling out once he got to Congress. In order to get more people like that we need donations, volunteers, and any other support that is out there. We need the bloggers from this site to get out there and spread the message about David Gereighty. We need people to go out and post on message boards to gain more support. I personally would also like to see at least 5,000 people donate at least $100. Let's make sure that the Democratic Party is a powerhouse in all of the districts of Louisiana. We should never just "lay down" for anyone.

Sincerely,
Daniel Zimmerman
Campaign manager - Dave Gereighty for Congress 2006.

1. How did Jindal "sell a bill of
goods to the citizens of LA01 and then selling out once he got to Congress"? I'm not a Jindal fan just curious as to what he did.

I don't think Jindal will ever be governor. There are too many racist still in Louisiana.

13. How Jindal sold out.
The DCCC states it pretty clearly.

http://www.dccc.org/gopauctionhouse/members/BobbyJindalLA-1.html

Jindal ran as a health care "expert", as someone that could promote good policies to make the health care system better. What he wound up doing is voting for legislation that only helped big medical companies.

Jindal was supposed to be the guy who helped the LSU system. What did he do to help students? He cut financial aid AND allowed rates to increase on government loans. So much for being an expert on education.

Jindal also sold out by taking money from ARMPAC, and not returning a red cent (or donating it to charity) when ARMPAC when bottom up for violating FEC rules.

These are just a few examples of how Jindal sold us out after selling us a bill of goods.

2. How did Jindal sell out?
I don't get the reference.
Not sure if Jindal has a chance to become Governor. He comes across as a likable guy,but he's one of the 'brown' people! On the other hand people remember him after Katrina,he was all over the tube and now the story how he delivered his own son.

I'll check Gereighty's out.Are there anybody else running for that seat? Anybody know?

3. a guy named Tallitch
Jindal is currently facing a challenge from Democrats David Gereighty and Stacey Tallitsch as well as a Peter Beary (Libertarian)in his re-election bid in November 2006.

I just came across Tallitsch' website. He sounds more of a progressive to me than Gereighty.I could be wrong, but there is not much of substance on Gereighty's page.

6. Gereighty is more likely to win if given the chance.
Tallitsch has been planning to run for a while and has been open about it. David Gereighty took a longer time to think about the run and is currently working on his website to add more details on his policy positions. He is the better candidate.

Define what "more progressive" means in your opinion. Keep in mind that the Democrats got fully behind Charlie Melancon in LA03 and ACTIVELY promoted that he is a pro-life candidate. Should the Democrats not have done that in district 3? Should the Democrats run a "more progressive" candidate in district 3 knowing that he would not win? Or should the democrats have run the Democrat who had the best chance of winning the district who ALSO shared many ideals with the Democratic party? If we can force a runoff, David Gereighty is best chance for our party to be competitive in that runoff. I don't think the voters in District 1 will embrace someone who authored a book with this cover... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-images/1420895702/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_all/103-0493688-2130246?ie=UTF8&s=books#gallery

Is that the image that we want as the image of the Democratic party? We are supposed to be inclusive of all religions not a party who insults Christians. I know many Christians who are not observant but still find that cover repulsive.

David is well educated and very intelligent. He is someone that will put the needs of Louisiana before the wants and desires of a career politician. He intends to serve a full term. And he needs your help to spread the word about our party and to tear down the straw man that the Republican party has built up in the minds of the voters in LA01. The say that Jindal is safe. NO Republican should ever feel safe. We should fight them in every state, in every district, in every parish/county, in every precinct, on every block, in every street and in every house. David Gereighty is the man who can do this, all we need to do is spread the word. But he is a man and he cant do it alone.

8. Focus in the campaign.
Our focus in the campaign is going to be why David Gereighty is the best candidate for the job. While we will mention certain things about Jindal, our focus will be on showing why David is great for the job and not why Jindal is bad for it.

Of course, Jindal's selfishness when it comes to his potential run for governor in 2007 is someplace that all candidates in this race will hit on. They would be stupid not to.

When it comes to Stacey, we are definitely not going to be focusing attacks on him. However, we will also be staying as clear from him as possible. Why? Because David does not want to be associated with that kind of politics that will offend people of faith. We want people of all faiths to rally behind David Gereighty.

9. I don't have a problem with the cover
what's important to me is the content. That's being said, you're the one who came here to promote your candidate and link to a website that doesn't tell me anything about the candidate.Only that he's running and wants donations. You're the one who knows him and where he stands on the isues.I don't.
You have to convince me why he is the better candidate!

In my opinion it hurts your candidate if he puts up a crappy website.People read your post and click on the website only to find no content. And how about all the people who google your candidate?Do you think they'll come back for a second look? Most will not.

Trashing the other candidate doesn't help either. We're here to keep Jindal from winning.Trash him!

10. Content is a work in progress.
I remember in the last election in LA01, every single candidate who had a website (including Jindal and myself) had websites that where works in progress. Each candidate listed their goals for the district and expanded on them as time went on.

That being said, a website can never answer every question that a voter might want to ask. This is why David has put contact information on his site. If you have a specific question that needs to be answered you can feel free to contact him. He will be very happy to answer your specific questions while we are in the process of upgrading the site to include more and more issues.

You may personally not have an issue with the cover of Stacey's book. However, there are many people of faith who are in District One that will look at that cover and be more inclined to believe the Republican straw man argument that Democrats are the party that is against people of faith. In reality, the Democratic party is the party that includes all faiths, all beliefs, and all people to the table. While David Gereighty embraces all people of faith, Stacey Tallitsch insults Christians with his book cover. We cannot be seen as the party that attacks religion and hope to win LA01.

And you may be here to keep Jindal from winning, and that is a good thing. I don't want Jindal to win either. However, this is a Democratic site. I shouldn't need to convince anyone here why you should not support Jindal. I am here to help show why David is the best candidate. And since this IS a Democratic site, that means that I have to also show the people here why David is the most likely Democrat to win in LA01. If this means I have to show why David stands a better chance at beating Jindal in LA01 then I will have to do just that.

11. I agree to disagree
with you and to clear up some points:
The title of the book is "The Bare Naked Truth of the Religious Right"
It does not take all christians to the wood shed and it certainly does not attack religion as such.It attacks the religious right that is harmful to this country.

Also I did not ask you to convince me or anyone why Jindal should not be supported. You have to convince me why David Gereighty is better than Tallitsch.

On the web site issue,I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but I think for a web site to draw attention it should have the basic info on the front page. Something that will make me want to find
out more.

12. You are correct.
The book title does not take all Christians to the wood shed, only the religious right. However, the COVER is what would make many Christians flee from him. People will see the cover and not be interested in anything else.

As I said, again, the website is a work in progress. It will be updated and amended as time goes by to better inform the voters of the district on why David is the best choice.

I will be more than happy to try and convince you that David Gereighty is the best choice in this election. What I suggest you do is either send him an email or call him. His contact information is right on the page. You can talk to him. You can ask him questions. It took me 45 minutes to feel comfortable with the idea of him as my next Congressman.

You can also ask me questions right here. I would be more than happy to answer any question you might have about what David stands for.

We also have a yahoo group set up where you can ask him questions. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gereighty2006/

If you look at the voters of District 1, David is the candidate who will be more likely to take voters away from Jindal. David formulates his arguments carefully and with common sense. He doesn't have to resort to rhetoric like "voted against Big bird" when trying to make his points.

I have given you many ways to learn more about David. We will also be adding more to the website by the end of the week. So please contact David and just have a conversation with him. I am confident that you will be supportive of him and his campaign.
