City of Portland: document on life in Portland under TABOR
The city of Portland has released a document detailing the 'joys' of life under TABOR in Portland Maine.
Even more interesting is this document details what life in Portland would be like if TABOR had been in place since '99. This includes things such as:

*Elimination of Fire Depart inspection programs
*Firing 110 police dept and fire dept employees
*Close the Barron Center (screw the poor and the old)
*Eliminate Community Policing program (which helped reduce crime in Portland and raise property values)
*Eliminate ALL co-curricular activities at school.
*Eliminate art and music in schools
*Eliminate school buses AND cutting back of public transport!

Sounds great doesn't it? It'll hurt property values: that's how it'll save on property taxes! Drive down land value. Promote crime. Reduce fire safety. Reduce education. Reduce snow removal in winter (who needs safe roads anyhow?) End all government business promotion. End public recycling. End sports. It's genius! :sarcasm:

1. Interesting...
I don't like TABOR, and that's very interesting - highlights the general problem with TABOR...

...although I think that's a BIT overdone... I don't think it would be THAT bad in Portland. Bad? Yeah, but that's a little overboard.

Good article none the less though. Shows what the problems with TABOR can be.

2. Hmm...
That's why the Portland Press Herald endorsed TABOR. They're banking on the fact that more people will subscribe just to burn their newspaper to keep warm. :eyes:

C'mon, folks.

3. Thanks MG
We just moved to the Portland area from out of state, and are still trying to get a handle on what TABOR is all about.

4. Interesting paper
Saw this linked on Maine Matters this morning. Interesting food for thought.

I make no apologies for supporting TABOR. Others here disagree. The SurveyUSA poll showed that a substantial number of Democrats support TABOR. I'm just one of them. I also respect that there are other opinions.

5. Does the Maine Motor Transport Association want good (plowed) roads???
They sure as hell won't get them under TABOR.

How stupid can these folks be????
