Could Al Gore win in Maine?
I'm seeing all sorts of speculation that Al Gore might seek the nomination in the wake of his Nobel prize. I just saw a report on another website that his office has stopped issuing flat denials to questions about the presidential race and is now saying "no comment." I can't imagine him not winning Maine's convention votes, but then Hillary Clinton's organization is pretty strong here. Any thoughts on a Gore candidacy?

1. he'd be another great candidate

put him in the mix, anything is better than what we have now. we have a bunch of fine people running now and adding more will only add voters.
I love to hear people from the other side tell how the republicans help small business.
my wife had her business for just under 30 years, helped put two kids through college
give us added food ,toys and spending money. "BUSHCO" PUT HER OUT IN 3YEARS. she couldn't afford health ins. or compete with day cares bigger than 50 kids. in our area
approx 14 went out.
today I bought gas in naples=$2.699 per gal. while pumping I talked to a young fella
who owned his own business he was filling a van. I said to him must take a lot,he said $100 if it's close to empty, but today he said probably $75. I SAID WOW THAT MUST DRIVE UP YOUR RATES,AND HIS REPLY WAS I FILL IT AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK. I SAID TO HIM PROBABLY COST YOU $30 WHEN YOU FIRST BOUGHT YOUR VAN. HE SAID $35.
I COULD TELL HE WAS HURTING,I SAID THATS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU VOTE REPUBLICAN. HIS REPLY=NEVER AGAIN. (THE TRAP =THEY CAN'T RAISE PRICES AND KEEP CUSTOMERS)
MY WIFES BOSS HAS HAD HIS OWN BUSINESS SINCE HE WAS 26,HE'S PUSHING 60 NOW. HE MOVES TRAILERS AND SETS UP MODULAR HOMES. HE TURNS WORK DOWN BECAUSE OF DISTANCE,HE CAN'T RAISE HIS PRICES AND KEEP COMPETITIVE.
AND THIS IS ONLY TWO OF A HUNDRED I KNOW OF.
THE REPUBLICANS CANNOT OVER COME THE PERIL THEY HAVE PUT THIS COUNTRY IN.
SO ONCE AGAIN I'LL SAY WE HAVE A GREAT FIELD OF CANDIDATES TO CHOOSE FROM AND GORE WILL BE ANOTHER PLUS.
AND MY FEELING,IF HE GETS ELECTED THE COUNTRY CLUB JAILS WILL BE FULL!

2. In Maine? I'd guess so.
For a number of reasons: We're all mostly environmentalists, even conservatives. We're outdoorsy!
Air quality: Being the ass end of the midwest's pollution for years, I think most people have a deep appreciation of the issues of air pollutants.
He has already won Maine once, and nowdays Maine is bluer than it was then.
If he were the dem nominee, he'd get our electoral votes no prob.

3. Absolutely - hands down - no brainer
I have nothing against Sen. Clinton, but Gore would be the better candidate...

4. I agree with jpak
He'd be my choice over Clinton. The energy issue is paramount.

I have no interest in voting for Clinton. If she's the nominee I may "throw away my vote" and go third party.

My primary concern with Gore is NAFTA, but I have not heard him speak on this issue lately. Even with this issue, I'd feel much more comfortable voting for him again over many of the other primary candidates.

7. This only helps the GOP!
Don't be foolish. There are stark differences between Hillary and ANY GOPer, and she'd be a godsend compared to what we have now in the White House. That is the context. We can in no way stand four to more years of ReThuglicans in the White House. I urge you to re-consider this sentiment. If Hillary is nominated, it will either be her or the likes of Rudy (who came to Maine to campaign for Bush in '04 while traveling the whole country campaigning for that crook) or some other other Bush fraternal twin. Please don't help the GOP win again in '08.

6. Very doubtful it would or should happen.
Very, very doubtful Gore would, or should get in. At this late juncture it would be seen very much as opportunism in the wake of the Nobel, and so many votes and resources are already committed to other candidates. Gore has won an Oscar and the Nobel. Bigtime Kudos which speak very well of our side. First Carter, now Gore to win the Nobel within just a few years. Gore is in his element, doing a great job on the cause of his life. Why should he risk ruining that by entering the presidential race late and very possibly not being able to win? That would be a huge error. He should stay put and keep working on his main issue, and I think he will. We need him there. The presidential field is fine as is. Objectively, Gore really brings little new to the table on issues outside of the global warming. Now, as to our candidates, I remain for Edwards right now as I think he'd have the best chance in the general election, but Hillary runs a close second with me and if she wins the nomination (she'll be a hard train to stop) then we better roll up our sleeves and work overtime to get her elected as we can in no way stand one more second of ReThuglican rule after Bobble-Head leaves office. And make no mistake, with a tough and focused AGGRESSIVE campaign, Hillary CAN win!
