12/16 - Governor Mourns Soldier's Death in Iraq |
|
AUGUSTA - Governor John E. Baldacci has learned of the death of a soldier with Maine ties.
Sergeant First Class Jonathan Allen Lowery, originally from Houlton, Maine, was killed Friday, Dec. 14, in Mosul, Iraq. He was 38.
Sergeant First Class Lowery was serving with the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, III Corps.
"I was saddened to learn of Sergeant First Class Lowery's death," Governor Baldacci said. "He was a dedicated soldier and a brave man who made a career out of the military. He was also a father, a brother and a son. While we honor his memory and his service, we will also keep his family in our prayers as they cope with this terrible loss."
Sergeant First Class Lowery's father lives in Houlton.
Flags will be ordered flown at half-staff on the day of Sergeant First Class Lowery's funeral.

What do they mean anyway? They mean for one's country. Any country at all. This wreath I bring is a gift from the people of one country to the people of another. Never mind which countries. Think of people..... And children murdered in war... And any country at all. Think of peace. Think of brotherly love. Think of plenty. Think of what a paradise this world would be if men were kind and wise. As stupid and vicious as men are, this is a loveley day. I, in my own heart and as a representative of the peace-loving people of the United States of America, pity lo Hoon-yera Mora-toorz tut Zamoo-cratz-ya for being dead on this fine day. -AMBASSADOR HORLICK MILTON
