Wow. I'm listening to LePage on NPR.
It's early, and he's already been caught in two bold lies. Maybe three, if you believe his claim that until the debate earlier this season, he had never heard the word creationism. "Never in my whole life," he said.

I am feeling a glimmer of hope. Mainer rethugs aren't wingnuts, by and large, and they will not appreciate being embarrassed by this man. I hope to hear plenty more from him; it can only do us good.

1. More LePage nutjobbery from MPBN....
http://www.mpbn.net/News/YourVote2010/YourVote2010RepublicansforGovernor/YourVote2010PaulLepage/tabid/1207/Default.aspx

Energy:

Once I become governor, my policy is going to be everything's on the table, we're going to look at all forms of energy. The only energies I will implement are energies that are cost effective, that will lower the total energy burden of the state of Maine. I do believe that we need to explore liquefied natural gas terminals and I think that an energy corridor from Canada is a pretty good concept as long as some of that energy can be left in Maine, if it's cheaper than what we're buying off the grid now - which it is. And quite frankly, I think Maine is ripe for a nuclear power plant.

Education:
I think the state of Maine only needs 16 school superintendents: one per county. You take all of the education policy through that office; all of the business work and all of the personnel work. Do the bussing, nutrition and accounting on the county level and leave the local school boards alone. Let them decide how they want to run the schools as long as they stay within a state mandate. But I'm also a big fan of home schooling, voucher systems and charter schools. We need charter schools. Maine has great kids and great teachers, but the education system is handcuffed by large unions. They don't care about anything except their power.

Gambling:
As governor, I believe that if you're going to have casino in your community it should be a county level decision, not a state level decision. I also believe that if the Maine voters say they want gambling, I would enforce the law and say we'll have gambling. If they say they don't want it, I would enforce the law and not have gambling. For me, it's not a big issue.

Same-Sex Marriage:
I believe that marriage consists of a man and a woman and I would veto a gay marriage law if it came to my desk as governor.

2. Is that from his webpage? I went there before the
debate so I knew who I was listening to. One read-though was enough to persuade me that he is not the right guy for the job and I am very surprised that he was chosen. F***!

3. Bill Nemitz has called out LePage on the lies and general craziness
http://www.pressherald.com/news/communique-to-a-candidate-mr_-lepage-people-are-listening_2010-07-30.html
Back in May, at an MPBN forum for GOP primary candidates, you were asked, "Do you believe in creationism and do you think it should be taught in Maine public schools?"

You replied, "I would say the more education you have, the more knowledge you have, the better person you are. And I believe yes ... and yes."

Now stop me if I'm making too big a leap here, but I take that to be a "yes" (actually, a "double-yes").

Fast forward to last weekend. Reminded by those pesky reporters that you said you supported teaching creationism in public schools, you replied, "I never said such a thing. That's what he (Arden Manning) said."

4. Let us hope he keeps on talking because it will only hurt him further.
I know a couple Maine republicans who find him detestable enough that they intend to vote independent.
