You MAers have less to lose in this upcoming move to national mandate on private health insurance |
|
since you've already had it for a while now. From what I've heard exhorbitant premiums and lower cost pseudo-insurance abound.
For the benefit of informed decision by the rest of DU, would someone reading this please post what it's like? Regular person only, no employees of or consultants to private health insurers need apply.

I am self-employed.
They offer very cheap and affordable plans that are hardly worth the paper they are printed on.
Forcing people to pay good money for bad insurance is NOT a good idea.
It must go hand in hand with STRONG oversight or we are just like lambs being thrown to the wolves.

2. Thanks for your answer. I meant to ask for a short descriptive post at GD |
|
where everyone can see it.
There are 2 "public" (actually privatized) options being considered. One from the House, the other from the Senate HELP committee. Neither of them lays out what has to be covered, or includes a government administered plan to provide competition.
If it is passed you can kiss goodbye any idea of getting the MA mandate rescinded.

3. It has helped many people in dire need during this Depression 2.0 |
|
It's not perfect, by any means. And at one time I would have said it's not sustainable in the long run, because affordability depends on subsidies for many people.
But, given the amount of taxpayer $$$ being thrown at bankers and fruitless wars... it seems there is plenty of money available for Americans' well-being, if only we'd care to funnel it their way.

4. The mandated Romneycare health insurance scheme SUX |
|
$460 per month with a $4000 annual deductible.
It is nothing more than a gift to the insurance racket by Mittens during the kick-off to his failed prez campaign.
The Feds took away VA health care access, then draft dodger Romney imposes this MA piece of shit forcing screwed veterans to buy it or be fined. They can shove it up their arse.

5. It is far from perfect, but the situation is better than in most of the other 49 states. |

6. Lack of a viable public option is the problem with Romneycare, not the mandate alone. |
|
Also, Romney and his people lied about how much Romneycare would actually cost. This was one of the times, IMO, when Kennedy's "It's not perfect, but let's get done anyway" was not a good idea. The Democratic state legislature had been resisting Romneycare (and Romney resisting the state legislature) until Senator Kennedy jawboned both sides.
The public option can't work without a mandate and a mandate without a public option is robbing us to make insurers even richer than they already are.
