Michigan's "George Soros"
We all know how there are a few ultra rich families that virtually fund the entire right wing industry. Families such as the DeVos family spend millions and millions of dollars working to defeat Democratic candidates who would otherwise fight for working and disadvantaged people. Rupert Murdoch, Richard Mellon-Scaife, and a few others have, as a group, kept the Republican party from disappearing.
Recently, George Soros has spent millions of his dollars in favor of Democratic candidates, and liberal causes, in an attempt to counter-act the effects of the DeVos, Murdoch, and Mellon-Scaife family fortunes.
Today, I read an article about a billionaire architect and philanthropist from Kalamazoo, Jon Stryker, who could be called, "Michigan's George Soros".

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061027/POLITICS01/610270363/1374

"The struggle for control of the Republican-dominated state Legislature is set to become the most expensive in the state's history, experts say, fueled in part by an unprecedented investment of $4.7 million from a Kalamazoo billionaire.

Jon Stryker, a 48-year-old architect and philanthropist, has poured his money into a political action committee founded this summer, called the Michigan Coalition for Progress. The group is funding efforts, mostly television spots and leaflets, for Democratic candidates in races from Livonia to Fruitport."

"State Sen. Laura Toy's bid for re-election is one of the races targeted by the Stryker PAC. And the Livonia Republican said she's upset by the out-of-towner's investment in the race..."

"...You are running against your opponent. You are not running against Mr. Stryker." (said Toy)

< I wonder if she was against "outsiders" spending large sums of money when it was the DeVos family working to defeat Democrats all across America? >

"The Stryker family has made similar donations in Colorado where the state GOP estimates the money Jon Stryker's sister Pat Stryker and other donors gave helped Democrats take the Colorado House and Senate for the first time in 42 years."

I guess all I have to say is, Thank you Jon Stryker!

3. Jon Stryker is a great guy....
Of course the fucking GOP propaganda machine doesn't mention the millions he gave, along with his sisters, to help build a sparkling, new minor-league baseball park and community recreation center in Kalamazoo.

Nor do they mention how his investment in downtown Kalamazoo has rescued several historic, deteriorated buildings in downtown Kalamazoo, renovated them to the cost of millions, and breathed new life into what were decaying eyesores.

The Resmuglicans are just bent out of shape because someone is meeting them at their same game, plying from their own play book.

It's called sour grapes.

You go, Jon!

4. I have to shake my head in disbelief...
every time I hear one of the right wingers attacking George Soros, or MoveOn.org or some other liberal group or individual that helps fund Democratic campaigns. They act as if the DeVos money, or the oil industry money that funds their campaigns is somehow pure and innocent.
