Carl Levin will run for re-election!!
(Cross-posted in LBN)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061204/ap_on_el_se/senate_levin_1

Democratic Sen. Carl Levin (news, bio, voting record), the incoming chairman of the Armed Services Committee, said Monday he will seek re-election in 2008.

The 72-year-old Michigan lawmaker was widely expected to seek a sixth term and will enter the race a heavy favorite. With Democrats winning control of the Senate, Levin will take the helm of the Armed Services panel, giving him a major role in shaping
Iraq policy.

The Detroit lawmaker has called for troop withdrawals from Iraq beginning within four to six months. He has criticized the Bush administration for making the war open-ended, saying the White House has provided the Iraqis with a blank check with the presence of U.S. troops.

Levin said he hopes to win another term, citing his work on Armed Services and on issues crucial to Michigan's automotive and manufacturing industries.

1. LOL
I was just posting the same thing -- I just heard it on NPR, and I'm as happy as can be.

3. Good news. That's a safe seat in 2008.
Bad news is it looks like we'll be stuck with Candace Miller for God knows how long in the 10th. I always figured the best shot to get her out was to have her run for that open Senate seat when Levin left and lose. With her out of the picture in the 10th, I suspect some strong Democratic challengers might take a shot at running for that seat.

Then again maybe now that that seat is less likely to open up for awhile, perhaps some Macomb County Democrats with at least a somewhat reasonable chance to compete will step up and challenge her instead of waiting her out. She absolutely stinks.

4. My favorite thing about Levin: The Goopers fear him.
I turly believe that. They are, as Mickey Redmond says, "shakin' in their boots."

5. Carl Levin will run for another term in '08
Just heard on NPR that Carl Levin will run in 2008. I'm so glad to hear that, because someone I met at a MoveOn party a few weeks ago told me he had heard a rumor that he was going to retire then. Maybe he would have if we hadn't gotten the majority, but I'm thrilled he's going to go for another term, for several reasons. One is that he's too valuable to lose right now and, two, I have a feeling Granholm may run for his seat when he retires (don't quote me, it's just my gut feeling that it would be a logical move and I've had others say the same thing to me) and 2008 would have been too soon, as I doubt she would have left in the middle of her term.
